Explaining why I want a certain job.

I am looking for a lower stress work environment and I am looking into urgent care centers. At the interview I am certain they will ask why I want to work there, and not the ER at the hospital I am currrently employed at. Is saying I am looking for a lower stress environment with normal hours ok to tell them, or do I need to come up with a sugar coated reason?

tell them you are wanting to work in an environment where your ER skills would be of value, and where there are opportunities for professional growth.

BTW, the stress level is different, but still exists. I hope you are successful in this change!

No definitely do not mention that you are looking for lower stress... You'll learn that everyone believes that their environment is one of high stress (although not true) if I were you I would say that you enjoy the ER environment but feel ready for a change and that because of your ER experience you understand the demands of the role... You could say something about working with less acute patients that you could do some teaching with, spend more time with, etc.

And that you are looking for a position with hours that provide a better work-life balance.

I know the acuity will be lower in urgent care but I don't think it is less stressful, just a different type. I definitely wouldn't mention that. You may get to spend a little more time with patients but you'll still have pts always waiting to be seen, the need to get them in and out efficiently and the jam car pts that think they're the only sick pt there.

Sorry I don't have many good suggestions as both jobs seem very similar in nature to me but good luck!
