Hi nurses, have you measured the emesis during your practice? How to define the amount of slight, moderate and large?

I have never measured it personally. But then again, many of the "large" have been all over the floor, bed, etc. I estimate it if they are not on strict IO. Part of a kidney basin- small. If you have to grab the big multipurpose square bucket and it's half full- large. If you think " oh my gosh they just vomited an ocean all over those fresh sheets"- large ;-)

Thanks! The reason I asked this, because I have been asked seriously by my manager. I was stunned at that time. She was a registered nurse, she showed have some sense of this, oh, gosh!

Our emesis bags are kinda marked on the side...for more than 200mL, the weight is probably enough to pull the bag down & open. Assuming the pt makes it to one, that is! Occasionally the only vessel I've had handy was a graduated container (we use 'em for all kinds of stuff) and that's pretty convenient. Otherwise, estimate...I'd think 750 would be pretty big for an adult.
