I was trained by a nurse to take care of my son who has cancer and is on home health care. He has a couple blood clots in his lung so I give him hemprin as well as an antibiotics flushing the line each time with saline. I'm panicked right now. I just reviewed instructions from the nurse and realized I have not been priming the elasometric. I have just inserted it and opened the clamps. Apparently you are suppose to open the device clamp of the elastomeric and fill the tubing with solution. This is prepping for the infusion after the saline solution. I have a very sick son and I'm nervous I may have done something bad or dangerous like sent a lot of air bubbles in. If I did dangerously cause air bubbles could that cause a stroke? How would I know if this is serious.

You need to call your home health care company. They can best respond to your concerns and can evaluate your son if they feel it is necessary. While your concerns are valid there are too many variables for us to give you ans answer that will be in the best interest of your son.

My last job was in home infusion and the pharmacy always primed these devices for the families. Please call your Pharmacist for peace of mind but I'm fairly sure they did it when they filled it.
