It really depends on what kind of working conditions you personally find to be low stress. Different personalities are comfortable in different environments.

Read throught he nursing specialties list on this BB and explore those areas that you think you would find most comfortable and low stress.

I strongly agree with sjoe. There are many different kinds of stress out there. Sometimes, I think choosing a job is as much about deciding what types of stress and problems you are willing to live with as it is about deciding what types of things you enjoy.

I agree with llg and sjoe. What area you are passionate about really getting into and sticking with is the area you should choose for yourself. Some are happy doing one thing that others are not. Nursing is individualistic that way. Many opportunities to select with the right drive and passion backing you. :nurse:

Ever consider going back to school (advancing your nursing ed) to "find" yourself again? I agree with the above; find what you are passionate about. Stress is not a bad thing------if you enjoy what you do.

I have tried many professions before, this is my latest career choice, I love nursing and my patients and even some of my coworkers, I just would like a job that I can handle, so far my patient load has been so heavy that I go home and think about what I might have done wrong that day, I've been a nurse for 1 1/2 years. I have experience in med/surg and OB/GYN(4500 deliveries a year, high risk, short on staff). I love OB/GYN and maybe if I found a hospital with fewer deliveries that would be the right way to go. I know every job is stressful in some way. I was just curious about the different area's some of you have tried and found, less hectic

I like doing OB in a smaller setting----I work in an LDRP setting that does about 70-75 deliveries a month. Not a huge cattle-call and you actually get to KNOW your patients. You might enjoy THIS more. I also do GYN surgical nursing on the same floor. It's mixed, so I am never bored.

I don't know about low stress, but my hospital has reasonable stress. I think it has to do with patient ratios and acuitity and your management team. You need to interview your employer and talk to their employees before taking a job.
