Do your eyeglasses get in the way?

I was wondering if it's a pain to be a nurse who wears eyeglasses? I developed severe dry eye after the birth of my last child. I wore contacts for 10 years and now I can't. Do your glasses get in the way? Thanks

Nope, no problems here, I have heard it can be a bit of a pain if you've got the old style masks they use intra-operatively or for isolation (fogging and such) but haven't experienced that myself.

the only time my glasses have gotten in the way is if they aren't fitting right or if my face gets real sweaty

if i am using an isolation mask, i make sure to mold the wire around the bridge of my nose

I thought wearing glasses could actually be a bit of a bonus - a little eye shield all the time.

I use mine for extra eye protection, the only time I have had a problem with them is with extended mask wear. But if you are an OR nurse or need to wear masks for any length of time you can buy anti-fog stuff to put on the lenses (they sell it at sporting goods stores for hikers). It works like shoe polish on the lenses, lasts 2-3 days, and has no harsh smell. Good luck!

As much as I hate having to wear glasses, I agree that having a wee eye shield all the time has its advantages.

The only downsides are the fogging up with masks and the slipping down the face if not fitting properly.

The only time that myglasses have gotten in the way is recently, and that is only because I need to go and get my eyes checked. I think I need bifocals!:bluecry1: Other than having to take them off to see things close up now, they really haven' given me any trouble. :)

Thanks everyone! I feel better. I never really thought about the extra eye shield. I'll have to make sure I get some good fitting specs:)

If you work in peds, the only disadvantage to glasses is that little kids tend to pull at them/ knock them off from time to time. I did not spend a lot of money on mine for that reason. I have a nicer pair that I wear outside of work.

only had a problem once when a sweet lol punched me, breaking the nose-piece....:smokin:

(someone forgot to mention the dementia!!):clown:

I have just started wearing glasses. I find that if it is hot they seem to be heavy on my face.

I have noted that they do act as an extra eye shield in messy situations, sometimes I've taken off my glasses and see some kind of junk, splatter, smears, and wonder how that got there, better there than my eyes:)

I have those glasses that have the tri-(or is it bi-)focal type of thing that is hidden, (i.e., no obvious lines), and I notice that when I start IVs I have to take them off, it works better, because the lower sharper focus area in the lens doesn't seem to be large enough and I don't know where it look through my glasses. (Though it could just be me or I need a new perscription).
