1. Compression stockings really itch when you don't shave your legs for a week.

2. It takes more social skills than technical skills to be a nurse.

3. Pens are meant to be hoarded (My Precious!)

4. Modesty is not only out the window for patients, but also for nurses who need to change into surgical scrubs for an emergent c-section.

5. Working to save a newborn's life is the hardest, saddest, scariest, and most rewarding thing I will ever be paid to do.

Top 5 things I learned as a nurse...

5. Yes, it can fit there. It does not matter what it is, where it fit into or even why. I am no longer surprised by patients having X sticking out of Y... Or Z.

4. People feel they can(and frequently will) tell you anything when you wear scrubs. I have heard about your bowels, fungus, little blue pill, your pet's Luke's disease and your granddaughter's allergies. I knew I shouldn't stop for milk on the way home from work.

3. I can get in the bathroom, pee, and get back out in exactly 12.8 seconds...will you please watch my patients for that long... Please!!!!

2. I can go over 12 hours without going to the bathroom while at work but I have to stop every hour while traveling.

And...

the he number one thing I have learned in over 10 years of being a nurse...

Love may not cure all, but it sure goes a long way! The love of your job, coworkers, and most of all your patients makes every day a good day, even when it's a bad day. Beung a nurse, a real nurse, that's what love is.

1. It never hurts to double or even triple check.

2. Listen to your patient and their family.

3. Listen to your gut on things.

4. As a nurse you deserve respect.

5. Don't take things too personally.

Specializes in Critical Care- Neuro/Surgical.

l. Be kind, respectful to everyone you meet- families, patients, co-workers

2. Care for them as you would want to be cared for

3. Do your very best every day that you work, always try to find the positives !

4. You should learn something every day that you work, then put that into your practice

5. Put every day in prayer, God will direct you

1. Hold a hand, lend an ear. Be compassionate.

2. Dont let doctors intimidate you, they are humans too. 😏

3. Work as a team! You can't always do it alone.

4. Take your breaks. Don't let UTIs and hunger destroy you.

5. Take a deep breath in any situation. Just know you'll do fine.

1. Strive for a good rapport with your CNAs. They can make or break your whole shift!

2. Sometimes no matter what you do for your patient, they still complain.

3. Ask open ended questions to really get information.

4. Your first med error will make you want to puke.

5. Eat when you can, because normal times don't exist anymore.

1. Never takes short cuts (it truly makes your job harder in the long run).

2. Chart "in the moment" ALWAYS!!!

3. Less is more when it comes to pain medicine! You can always give more, but you cannot take it back!

4. Assess, Assess, Assess! Patient Assessment is ongoing through out your shift, not just once or twice.

5. Never assume anything!

1. MONA

2. NPO for ER patients

3. Ice brown recluse spider bites

4. Coffee is the best medicine for nurses

5. My bladder is out of order

1. Doctors have their ways or times how they wanted to communicate with nurses. There are some who don't want to be bothered unless there is an emergency. You can do what you want to do, but he is not going to be the happy one if you do not care their preferences.

2. You can say "I do not know" when a patient asks a question and you have no answer. But make sure to find out and follow up

3. Do not take someone else's report to do their favors. Then you have extra patients to be in change until new nurse takes your report. You get the report when you actually take care of them.

4. I take care of patients and their health. I can't take care of myself when I take care of them. My back, knees, and all joints hurt by the constant walking.

5. Nursing care is the combination between the practical skills and interpersonal skills. You need to learn how to communicate to other people. You need to have a good sens about people. Communication skills are always changeable depending on the person you deal with.

1- choose your own attitude towards your patient each shift. Sometimes the difficult patient described in report can be fine for you.

2- be a sponge and learn when you can, no patient is the same. Learn learn learn

3- take it one moment at a time, you will make it through the shift.

4- keep yourself healthy, eat before shift and utilize your break to eat healthy.

5-stock your pockets in the beginning of the shift with things you know you will need.

1. Never take anything personally.

2. Brush it off.

3. Always double, triple, quadruple check everything.

4. Be ready for anything... at all times.

5. Always ask about what the home situation is like.
