Class splitting up!

Its official. My two closest friends in nursing school are leaving me. Our school changed to a five semester program for all the students after us (ours is a six semester BSN program) and it has mucked up our community rotations; because we normally get to pick when we take community and the class behind us will only have to take five semesters we will be overlaping in our sixth semester for community nursing and there are not enough placements...so they are having 18 of our 42 students take community in the summer and graduate in December 08 instead of in May 09. So those that are not graduating early have to take community in the fall (there use to be a choice). I am not graduating early because I want my masters degree (CNM) and feel that doing a preceptorship (which I am doing this summer--in OB) is more important than graduating early; plus the summer class in only 4 weeks long instead of 16 weeks and I do not want to risk my grades. So, after this semester my two really good friends and I will no longer be in the same class. It really sad because I did all my studing with these two and one I carpooled with which REALLY saved on gas money. I imagine it feels the same as those students that talk about half of their class failing. Its sad that we will not all get pinned together

That is sad, I'm sorry you have to split up with your friends, although I feel your choice was wise!

Yes, when I was getting my Masters we started out with quite a few students. Then, people started dropping like flies (or it seemed so then). It was sad, and a little scary, because we knew why some dropped, but not others (too difficult to make the grade?). Finally, those of us who were left decided we were going to make it together, no matter what, and we did! Sounds like you made a good choice, and sorry you all had to split up.

Its hard to say goodbye and goodbye to the study buddy relationship when it ends, its such a special time to bond and make friends. Do your best to keep in touch. Such wonderful things are ahead to share with them even if you arent a group you are still friends!

It's hard when you have to split up with the group......

This semester I got placed in the "wrong" group....with the students who ask OBLIVIOIUS questions, the student who has someone in the family with every disease process, and a bunch of LPN bridgers who seem to think being a LPN means that they should pass without studying.....go figure.

My clinical group also got split up, so I had to make basically brand new clinical relationships....except for my good friend who stayed in with me...thank god, cause else I would've gone crazy! So, it is what it is......look at it as a good learning opportunity...and a leg up on finding a job once you do graduate! Preceptorships always give you that introduction into the hospital.....

We "lost" 24 students to pharm limbo, i.e. they failed pharm and cannot continue on this semester and will have to start up again next semester. I lost a really good friend- as did many others. It is really weird to be in class without them, and it is even hard to be happy for yourself for making it (passing), knowing that they did not. BUT, we must forge on, make new friends and just pray that they will make it next time around!
