Can I do my nursing preceptor in any state?

I was wondering if anyone had any information about doing their nursing preceptor in a different state from which they attended nursing school. I am currently in a BSN program in Maine and my advisor told me I could not go back home to California to complete my preceptor. However, today, someone told me their advisor said they could go back to California for their preceptor. I was wondering if the nurse licensure compact had anything to do with preceptors, as I know California is not on the list.

Thank you for any information

Typically preceptorships are arrangements between the school and the facility. The school you are attending has no relationship with the facilities in California. So I would say no, you probably could not go home to California to completely your preceptorship.

Need to check with your school and state. NC is really weird about online schools. A friend was doing her RN-BSN online from a school outside of NC. She had to go to the state where the school was to get credit. A few people know had quite a mess because of this.

The OP is not in NC. Also, she is in a pre-licensure program, not an RN-BSN program.

The only place to get the correct answer to this question is at your school.
