Are The Business Schools In Your Area Cashing In On The Nursing Shortage?

They sure are around here. I just can't stand all of those commercials on TV that state "There is a critical shortage on Medical Assistants in our country". I don't know about everyone else, but around here medical assistants are a dime a dozen and most of them cannot find a job when they graduate. I know because I attended business school after graduating high school for Medical Assisting and it's not that easy.

I just can't help but think that these schools are using the nursing shortage to try and get more people enrolled in MA school when there really isn't a shortage on MA's (at least where I am from). These commercials kill me.

The one Business school here has caught on too...they just started a Medical Assistance program this year!

here, those commercials claim their graduates go on to "run the whole hospital or doctors' office". They portray them acting as nurses in others. Yea well maybe in some aspects, they DO run the dr office, but they earn so little doing so. These commercials make it seem as if they will be earning BIG bucks and be on EASY street once they graduate.....These commercials are really misleading if you ask me.

I feel sorry for people that go to these schools with high hopes just to get ripped off. I just saw another commercial where the MA was holding a baby in one scene and it said something to the effect of "Do you find labor and delivery exciting?", then in another scene it shows a MA with children saying, "Do you love children?", and a couple of other scenes and then it goes on to say "become a Medical Assistant and conquor the health care industry" AAAARRRRRGGGG!!!!!! Then there is yet another one where a doctor is saying that he couldn't function without his MA's from such and such school. This is so much crap!!!!!

I feel bad for the people who really go for it thinking and dreaming that being a MA is the best. I know this one girl ( she was only 18,19ish) who paid something like 12-15 thousand for it!!! Thats about how much I am doing to pay for my BSN! On the other hand, the people going into it should have really done a little research to see if there are jobs in their area and how much they will be getting paid. :stone
