Anti-depressants anyone?

  1. Over the years I have taken Celexa and most recently Paxil for my depression. I am now on Wellbutrin. My Celexas quit working, and my Paxils made me gain weight!(Like I needed that!). Anyone else taking Wellbutrin? I have heard people also use this for weight loss and to help them to quit smoking! I could only pray that it would make me lose weight! I had my first one today(been off my Paxil for two days). Am not asking for medical advice, just wondering if anyone else has had good luck with Wellbutrin!:stone

I take Wellbutrin to help me stop smoking. It works well for me. I have had about a 10lb weight loss.I am delighted with that! The only problem I am having is insomnia.I started taking my second dose at about 3pm and that seems to help.

I have been taking paxil for several years. I tried Zoloft and Prozac and had problems with diaphoresis. Too bad that paxil didn't work. I find that the strongest dose is the one that helps bysuppressing the appetite. You might want to discuss that with your physician.

S**, whats that. Between my blood pressure medicine, and my anti-depress. I could become a nun. Do you think thats why my husband divorced me last year? lol I never know if its the BP meds or the anti dep. that effects that part of my life. But theres really nothing I can do about it, so I live with it.

I am not on any of these drugs nor have I ever been. However, I had a coworker recently who was on two antidepressants & he tried the Atkins diet. Not only did he get off his antidepressants, but he got off his oral hypoglycemis and his Norvasc. Food for thought.

Welbutrin worked for me when I was quitting smoking; but, I did experience quite a bit of anxiety and some insomnia. Good luck with it.

I take Wellbutrin, and it has caused problems with my short-term memory. My doctor halved the dose (from 150 to 75 mg) and that helped, although it is still somewhat bothersome.
However, no weight loss, and it often causes restless legs at night, so I can't take it too late in the day.

Thanks for all the input guys. I guess if my anti's make me lose alot of sleep, it might not be so bad since I start LPN school in a few days. Might help with those all niters!!!!!

Dear Audrey Fay - when you say you had diaphoresis, or sweating alot, what do you mean? Would you sweat at night, or at rest during the day, or from doing light work, like walking. In what way, or how/what kind of sweat, did you sweat. I am trying to understand how the meds would effect this aspect. Thank you. Respectfully, Mario

My son's father takes Paxil, I guess to keep from killing others, and the sexual side effects sucked. (HOFH...hard on from hell) Ya could have beat it up against the bedpost before anything would have happened. "Honey, if ya smell smoke, it's because you have caused a small pube fire from friction..." Sorry, probly a TMI but the sexual side effects are the worst...I think.
A friend of mine takes Effexor and has lost 30lbs. She says it is the only thing keeping her family alive today. Just a thought on that med.

I work in a Dr.'s office. And I have seen people try them all.
The best I've seen is the Effexor XR That is my unscientific conclusion. Ppl respond differently to different meds. But it seems as if the effexor has had a more positive response for depression and weight loss as well. They have a effexor starter kit where you start on 37.5mg qd. x 1 week then advance to the 75mg qd. from then on. Ask your Dr. for a starter kit sample and at least try it for 2 weeks.:kiss
