Anti-depressants anyone?

Over the years I have taken Celexa and most recently Paxil for my depression. I am now on Wellbutrin. My Celexas quit working, and my Paxils made me gain weight!(Like I needed that!). Anyone else taking Wellbutrin? I have heard people also use this for weight loss and to help them to quit smoking! I could only pray that it would make me lose weight! I had my first one today(been off my Paxil for two days). Am not asking for medical advice, just wondering if anyone else has had good luck with Wellbutrin!:stone

I work in a Dr.'s office. And I have seen people try them all.

The best I've seen is the Effexor XR That is my unscientific conclusion. Ppl respond differently to different meds. But it seems as if the effexor has had a more positive response for depression and weight loss as well. They have a effexor starter kit where you start on 37.5mg qd. x 1 week then advance to the 75mg qd. from then on. Ask your Dr. for a starter kit sample and at least try it for 2 weeks.:kiss

I have tried a few of them and Prozac is the only one that doesn't seem to give me side effects, however I have been suffering for awhile w/ heartburn, bloat, gas, indigestion, etc. and am wondering if that might be the cause. My Dr. says that if it was the Prozac I would have had these problems when I first started the med. and that it is not a typical side effect of the med. Has anyone else experience these types of problems w/ Prozac??? Thanks, Heather

I tried Prozac; it squashed my libido. I've taken Zoloft without any side effects, and Wellbutrin with no side effects. Both work to some extent. Now I'm taking both together- a combination called "Welloft!" It does seem to work better than either one separately. I'm not a smoker, so I can't say how it works for that. As for the weight loss, it doesn't seem to have any particular effect there either. Darn.

My husband was on Effexor before it came out in sustained relief form. It had a couple of side effects he just couldn't live with, and then it was very nasty to get off of.

Remeron worked really well for me. I was in the clinical trial a few years ago and it really turned my life around. I went from not being able to get out of bed to taking a position with supervisory and project responsibilities within a year. The only thing I absolutely hated was the

Sorry about that, hit the wrong button. The weight gain was horrendous for me. I went up to 178 pounds on it. That was a 30 pound weight gain in one year. I was able to take it right off but it was troublesome at the time.

i took paxil for 6 months, and all it did was allow me to gain 35lbs!

Have seen it prescribed for little old ladies (and men) who were 'failing to thrive'...because of its appetite increasing effects.

I have been on antidepressants for chronic pain for most of the last 10 years.

I took Zoloft and it wiped out my sex drive, not a good thing for a newly wed.

I may have gained weight with Paxil...I was working nights so I am not sure.

Elavil is and has been my favorite but it took me 1 1/2 years to work from 10 mg/day to 150 mg/day.

I am a patient at a pain mgmt clinic and they put me on Effexor...I take 225mg of the XL daily...I might have lost weight...not sure as I quit working nights...and constipation is a very real s/e.

EricaCCRN - I have also heard that exercise and a low carb diet has helped many people with depression. I also have seen good results from Effexor ("Prozac with a kick")

Yes this is Debbielynn! Had to change everything, site wouldn't recognize my new email address. Well I have had two doses of my Wellb. Took it yesterday morning about 6am. Stayed up until 5:20am this morning! This might be handy for studying for LPN School. As for as the hallucinations......I dreamed I lived in Mayberry RFD with Andy Griffin. I dont know, was this maybe a nightmare? Anyway, seem not to be so hungry, and seem to already have more energy! I even opened my blinds today and let in some sunshine!!!!

I take Celexa, and it works great for me. No side effects that I can tell. For a brief period of time before settling on the Celexa, I was given Paxil and Zoloft (at different times of course). The Paxil and Zoloft both bothered me and gave me side effects, so won't try those two anymore. I'll possibly be weaned from the Celexa soon as I've been on it almost two years (this coming September). :)

Excelent Austin ! You know I'm smiling. You really can't always get wha you want, but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need.

And, some people can tell right away when you or on those meds, just like you can tell if a person is drunk, or stoned, or otherwize whatever. People think I am on drugs and I'm not. Don't SWEAT it :-)248682081 paxil.jpg 232354606 256648059 :kiss
