Im seeking to find out more info about this grant.

Has anyone applied for it, and what were the things

you have to have to be approved.

I'm an lpn and want to go for my rn asap.

Id only do the program online through excelsior

because of my situation. I'm wondering if the

grant would pay for me to get my rn degree through

excelsior.

I have all my preq's and coreq's done from my college.

I just need the main rn courses and the clinical portion.

Im tired of the limited job opportunity i have as an lpn

and want to move on to the area of nurses that i really want...ob

please help, with any info regarding this grant and if i could us it

to get through the excelsior program....b-t-w, i most def make less than $40,000

I was told that if I had a child then I would be considered for pellgrant.....I only made 17,000 and I did not qualify for pellgrant!......what's up with that???

When I got my Associates I had 4 kids (single mom) and didn't qualify for pell grants....just loans. Good luck.

Since I got my bachelor's degree (wanted something to show for 4 years of college and then go back to nursing school) I don't even get loans! My only option is private loans and despite a 760 credit score rating, I can't get an interest rate below 17%. I don't know what to do...

OP, you might well come up with some pell grant money, as it's a complicated formula. As a parent, making a relatively low income, with no current bachelor-level degree (at least from your description), you have a shot. Now, if you own your home or receive child support or other sources of income, that will count against you. Try the financial aid calculator at collegeboard.com: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/pay/add-it-up/index.html or the FAFSA4caster at http://www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov/F4CApp/index/index.jsf

They'll give you a fair amount of information on your expected contributions. However, the calculation is only as good as the information you give it, so be as exact as possible. Remember, people may have similar incomes but very different backgrounds (kids, assets, obligations), so it's always worth finding out as much information as possible. There are also other federal grants aside from Pell grants for those with limited income, like the FSEOG money.

I strongly agree with a PP who suggested you check out the distance learning threads on Excelsior in the AN student section. There are some definite downsides to Excelsior in terms of its acceptability to some states and facilities.

Supposely, the amount earned has dropped to $35K-$40K with no exemptions.

For the Pell Grant only.
