Gen. Chemistry Spring 2013...

Published

Anyone else taking Gen. Chemistry this semester? I just looked at my schedule and the teacher I chose is now not teaching and someone with not so good reviews is taking over! Kinda upset bc I would've taken an earlier class had I known this was going to happen. Dang it!

I would switch the class! I had to find a teacher that had good review...may not help but Ive had horrible teachers in the past and I dont want to risk it!

I am taking general chemistry this semester too. My dilemma is that there are only 2 teachers teaching general chem in the spring. One of them is a really hard teacher whom is really tough and unhelpful. He has bad reviews and I refused to sign up for him. The second teacher is great! He does all he can to help you and his office is always open. He really cares. Here comes the problem. The horrible teacher's class is 16 weeks, which of course is a whole semester. The nice teacher's class is only 8 weeks!!!! I am terrified!!! I can't take chem in only 8 weeks!!! Especially since I know how challenging it is and how much effort it takes. I sure don't want to take the hard teacher either. Ugh

Brenay, I say go for it, if your course load is not to heavy. If the professor has really good reviews the class may not be as hard :)

I took Gen. Chem back in 1993. The school accepted my credit, but the BSN program will not accept it as a pre-req for Organic Chem, so I have to re-take it. Not thrilled that I have to re-take yet ANOTHER class (the bane of my academic existence right now...credits that are "too old")

I'm starting Gen. Chem on the 14th. Here's hoping that it's an "easy" A...right? :) I have a different prof for lab than lecture. Could not get the same prof for both. Everyone raves about the lab instructor, so I'm glad I have her. The lecture prof has mixed reviews on RateMyProfessors.com, but it skews more to the positive side, so I'm hoping I'll enjoy his lecture. I mean...how "fun" can you really make Chem lecture? :p

Good luck to everyone! I love having support threads during the semester. It's nice knowing you've got people going through the same thing with you

I can't switch because the other class is full. But I will definitely be checking until the start date to see if anyone drops because I would definitely switch! I'm glad I have other chemistry students to check in with this semester:) I keep hearing how hard it is so we can give each other support and help answer any questions. Or just be confused together;) lol

I went online and someone dropped the earlier class so I was able to switch mine! He's a new professor with no reviews so we'll see how it goes. Now I can get home earlier to my kiddos:)

Hi everyone. I will be taking General Chemistry starting Monday also. I hate Chemistry though lol

In Intro to Chem coming this spring (the 22nd) along with Anatomy and Child Development. I've been doing the Khan academy course to prepare myself over the break :)

I'm taking Intro to Chem for the Health Sciences. I'm also taking College Algebra. I'm not excited about the math class (I just wrapped up an 8 week intermediate algebra class - ick) but I think the chem will be interesting. The teacher is new to the university so there weren't any reviews for her. Scary!

Are any of you planning on recording the lectures for Chemistry? I seem the thread earlier about recording device and was wondering if I should do that? Or anyone who has already taken Chemistry who might have an opinion would be appreciated.

try not to stress out about the class before it has even started lol..I just finished my chemistry pre reqs and I must admit it was anything but easy for me as well. Having a good instructor for the class is important. Also, at my school we had a room full of tutors that would help students with different science and math classes. I would take advantage of tutoring and even form study groups but try to avoid working with people that will slow you down rather than help you progress faster! Practice practice practice to keep the Chem principles and methods solid in your head..You will be grateful when it is over, I know I was! good luck!
