Geez....

I am going to school right now and sometimes the negative posts I read are very discouraging! However, I try to read more of the positive ones. I know there are issues in the nursing profession, but I try to distinguish between the everyday kind of grumbles and those by nurses who have become jaded...I don't want that negative attitude rubbing off on me!!! I am so excited to become a nurse...I want so much to help people and make a difference in someone's life and I hope I always feel that way!

The one thing I take from nursing, that you can't say for a lot of professions is:

I make a difference. I protect, I comfort, I teach, I learn, we all grow.

You can read frustration anywhere, anytime, but sense that between the lines we all fuss so much, because overall we do feel good about what we do.

Well to make you feel a little better... I have been a nurse for 3, which is not that long to many, but i LOVE being a nurse. Of course I have had days that I come home crying, upset, angry, sometimes just ****** off, my feelings may be hurt by a co-worker, patient, doctor, whatever...... BUT, there are always those days that I get a rush, I learn something new everyday and know I have the potential to make a difference in someones life. The days that your patient or co-worker gave you a sincere "thank you". I remember these days. It's worth it!

In the 3 years I have been a nurse I have learned so much, gotten to travel and even made a few friends I will never forget. Traveling was awesome!!

There is so much to learn and so many different things you can do as a nurse, so many fields to explore!!!

You can do this!!! Don't give up!!!

there are many many more nurses out there who still have a positive attitude and love their jobs!!!

I wondering how many of these nurses have ever worked in another field? Having worked a desk job for nine years and being miserable for most of those years, I can't see how nursing can be any worse. I guess I'll find out if I ever get a job.

this is exactly the kind of stuff i like to read!! thank you! i am not so niaeve as to think there isn't anything to complain about in nursing. despite what crap may be going on at someone's place of work...understaffed, patient overload, nasty co-workers...there is a difference between a nurse who doesn't care anymore and a nurse who still loves her job but realises it was just a bad day/week or whatever. job burn out can happen in any profession and i feel so bad for the nurses on here where nursing is no longer a passion for them. i know i have a lot to learn, but i hope nursing is something i am always passionate about.
