Hi, I just wanted to know if anyone else is interested in going to GCU's ABSN program? Or if anyone is currently in this program, how is it going? I'm planning on attending Jan 2022! Thanks!

Hi! That's when I'm hoping to start as well! I'm also from Cali as well ? from Riverside County!
I am from the Bay Area (San Jose area!) but it looks like I have to do the Tucson one because I don't have a bach degree. Have you guys talked to the advisors? Also are you finishing your classes through them?
I am pretty much done... I need to take the religion one and patho. I am also gunna have retake one of my science classes to up my science GPA.
I am just wondering how legit this program is..they keep saying its first come first serve basis and that they have never turned anyone away yet for the ABSN for too many people trying to get in.
Has anyone actually started this program yet haha!?

You are totally fine! ahah I graduated from CSUMB which is about an hour away from San Jose, so I'm familiar with the area. ?
I'm planning on going to the Sun City location! I saw your other post and I have talked to an advisor. If you can, try to get an appointment with one! They go over all of your transcripts and tell you what transfers over and what you have to retake or what left you have to take. I only had to retake Chemistry for my GPA. I'm planning on taking Pathophysiology through Rio Salado College, a community college in Arizona. The class directly transfers to GCU & is cheaper than taking it there. Christian Worldview has to be taken straight through GCU. I believe an academic advisor has to register you for the course. I'm not planning on taking it until August but can share information when I do!
As far as I know, the program is first come first serve. Which is literally a breath of fresh air compared to the competition in California to get into nursing school. ? I believe the first graduating class from the ABSN program will be December 2021. Their traditional BSN program has a really good reputation in Arizona and is highly completive to get into.
NICE!! One less thing to worry about! LOL Yes! Can you share study tips for the HESI?? I took the TEAS and assuming it will follow a similar format. I didn't do so well in the English portion, so thinking I should focus hard in that section for the HESI.

Hi! Sorry about the delayed response! Oh yes that is not too far away at all..I actually grew up in Santa Cruz which is even closer to CSUMB! LOL.
I know I wish I could do the Sun City one but they said since I don't have a bach degree it has to be the other location...which when I looked it up... looks a little interesting LOL. Does anyone know about if you can go for your license in CA after graduating from them? I saw on the website it just said up to the state.
I am also looking at another program in TX. So we shall see haha!
For the HESI... I got the book that they sell on the website and just kinda went over everything. Also theres an APP (I think its the same one for the TEAS) which was helpful. So what happened with my first attempt was on the app I was doing really well on the vocab and so I didn't really study that much and then when I took it... I had some RANDOM words... I missed it by 1% so I had to retake that one section and once I did, I did just fine! But def look at the vocab word section more than you would think you need! Literally was the last section I would have ever thought I would not have passed LOL!!

Is it like a random building?? I didn’t even consider that we wouldn’t be on the main campus. ? (Even though it says it explicitly on the website.. OOPS ?)
Okay... I was wondering the same thing because I was looking at a program in Nevada! They shared some info there and I looked at the CA BRN. It pretty much is up to California if they want to allow us. We definitely will have to apply to California through endorsement. Which means, we have to take the NCLEX in Arizona and be licensed in Arizona as an RN. THEN apply through endorsement for California. CA BRN evaluates our transcripts and license to see if GCU’s program meets the program requirements for CA. If they do, we get approved. If they don’t, we can look at being licensed by examination. Such a confusing process!
One person in the other forum emailed the CA BRN and they said the best bet would be to talk to people who have done the process and see where the deficiencies were. Considering this a new program, we don’t really have that option. ? Someone also shared that California programs have to have 800 clinical hours. I didn’t see that anywhere but if it’s true GCU only has 408 hours for the ABSN. I’m going to try to look for CA ABSN clinical hours and compare ?
Thank you!! I’m going to look for the app because it’s so nice that it’s on our phones and we can literally study while waiting in line to pay ahah
@21_futurenurse
Hi! Following up to see if you found any more information regarding the clinical hours for the program! I know that GCU is an accredited nursing school, but not sure if we would be able to practice nursing in California since there is about a 400 hour clinical requirement difference. Do you know if the traditional BSN program at GCU completes 400 or 800 hours? I have heard of nurses completing the traditional BSN at GCU and practice nursing in California.
Also, are you all planning on completing the HESI on campus in Arizona?

Hey! I'm not currently in the program. I'm hoping to start at the Sun City location in January of 2022! I have heard some things about the program from people who are in the Spring Cohort and they said it's stressful but doable. They also said they feel very well supported, which is a plus!
