GCCAZ CEP Program 2017

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey! So I just applied to the nursing program and I have been literally praying everyday! I'm so nervous to see if I got in or not and if I got my first choice! Is anyone else feeling this anxiety? I also don't know if i have even a shot at getting in because of my HESI scores. Long story short I got a cumulative score of 94 and It sounds good to the average person, but the counselors said they want to see 97's, 98's and so on.

Anyway, I just wanted to start this thread to see if anyone else out there applied or is going to apply and could use a little pow wow to talk it all out! Also when you get your email, let us know so that we can be here for you or congratulate you, as I know the first place i'll come crying to if I don't get in, or singing if i do, will be here, and a sista would love the love haha!

Positivity to everyone, and hello to the nursing fam!

Orientation for gcc isn't until August. That's what -------------------------- told me via email.

Thanks for clearing that up, much appreciated!

No problem at all!

I didn't get accepted for CEP in the Fall enrollment with 3.6 and 94 on HESI. Each enrollment is different, but apparently it has become quite competitive.

It seems the having a previous degree has been the biggest foot in the door for most people I've seen on here. My GPA was on par with yours, but my overall HESI was only 89, not bad, but, not as good as yours or others I've seen, I can only chalk up my acceptance to the BS I previously had---that and maybe I chose a less desirable cohort (nights) as my first choice. I saw that youre getting your AGEC or equivalent this semester, I'm betting that'll be the magic ticket come next round. You are reapplying in May I hope?

Good heavens! That's insane! Was this for GCC?

Also - do they consider your overall HESI score then? So the individual math score and cumulative English aren't taken as separate scores?

GCC does consider your overall HESI score, the higher it is the extra points you get, but they also give extra points for GPA and previous degree holders.

It's gotten pretty competitive at GCC & likely most other schools. In the acceptance letter GCC sent out this round, they stated a record of over 180 applicants applied with CEP with them and they were only able to accept 96 applicants (32 for each of the cohorts traditional/evening/weekends). Some of the people they couldn't take who were in the top of the applicant group were placed at their second/third choice schools elsewhere.

Maybe it wasn't as competitive at one point, but seems it is now.

I'm not one hundred percent sure how they factor in everything either. I got a cumulative score of a 94 on my hesi and I had a gpa of either a 3.8 or 3.9. I think my math was 100 and my reading comp was 92. I do not have any previous degrees and I went for one of the more popular cohorts which is ASU traditional and got it. I am an honors student, but I'm not sure that is factored in. Your scores sounded pretty competitive I hope you get in next time!

That is some impressive scoring as well. I can see why you got in!

I applied at CGCC which only had a few spots to get in. I think that was my biggest downfall, whereas if I had applied somewhere with more seating I would have had a better chance. A friend of mine had a 3.8 and 100 on HESI and got in without a prior degree. But, having that degree gives an extra point which accounts for a lot.

I will be reapplying once I finish my degree (May). It's going to be challenging, though taking an accelerated course, as I am taking gen chem 2 and physics already :o. Because I will have fall semester open, I will complete the pre-reqs for CRNA which I hope to apply (or at least have the ability to consider) in the future. Not making the Maricopa nursing CEP though definitely impacted my confidence and momentum.

Is this across the board with all the CEP programs or only certain universities? Only reason I ask is that I'm planning on applying to the GCU CEP- MSN and it just seems there would be less of us applying to that program due to our previous degrees (so less competition? I dunno). I suppose it doesn't really matter which university one applies to since the seats are based upon clinical space with Maricopa. Crazy! I wish this wasn't the case for all these programs. I've been working on my pre-reqs on a part time basis for a couple of years and was hoping to get placed for Fall '18.

Does anyone happen to know what the evening schedule is like for the CEP program at GCC? I will be applying in December to start the first NAU course next summer. I am pregnant with my second baby, and he will be around 9 months old when I start the in-person Maricopa classes next fall. I also have a (almost) 3-year-old, so I am just trying to figure out which schedule will be ideal for us. The advisor that I met with did not seem to have the best insight on the days and times for the different cohorts. Any info would be much appreciated. :)

Hi Sameyeyem, I'm slated to start GCC's evening program come August. Our schedule is as follows:

-Tues 5pm-9pm Lecture

-Wed 5pm-10pm Lab

-Clinical rotation on Saturdays from 630am-430pm (other's in my cohort have theirs on Sunday), when we don't have a clinical on Saturdays, we're in the lab at GCC 730am-12pm.

They also told us we will have an occasional Friday at GCC, like 2 maybe 4 Fridays from 2pm-6pm. I'm not sure about the details about the Fridays, but we have orientation next month, so hopefully they'll be able to clarify. Maybe it's to do our lab testing?

I'm not doing the NAU CEP, doing another CEP school, but, my university classes are all online and I believe most of the CEP schools are for the most part. I believe you should be only taking one, occasionally 2 university classes online while in school. During the summer I was enrolled in 2 courses, but, that's b/c it was summer, come fall, I will be enrolled in only 1 online class at a time while doing my GCC block. Any other students doing the NAU cohort could better tell you the NAU side better than I could.

Hope that helps, congrats on your baby!
