Endo Travel

Specialties Gastroenterology

Hi guys,

I've been a member on this site for about 10 yrs. (?). Evidently I lurked too long without posting & I got booted off. I had to reset my password & set a new account. LOL.

My kids are 19 & 22 now & in college full time. They'll both be getting their own apartments this Fall so I'd like to start travel nursing (probably around Feb '16). Problem is, I've been doing GI now x16 yrs. I wouldn't mind doing some med/surg but I've been away so long I don't know how marketable I'd be in that field anymore.

So I was wondering....have any of you done travel nursing for endoscopy? Are there enough positions available to keep me busy?

Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks,

Amy :)

i've never done it but i see endo traveling jobs posted a lot for in my area

Specializes in Endoscopy, OR, ICU, HIV, Bariatrics.

You may already be a traveling Endoscopy nurse. We always have positions open here in Seattle. It is difficulty for us to find Endoscopy-trained traveling nurses. We usually hire pre-op or recovery/PACU nurses because we only allow full-time, non-traveling nurses in the rooms. I would think you would definitely have an advantage from your knowledge.

Good to know! I actually just sent out all my paperwork for WA endorsement. What hospital do you work at? Maybe I'll see you next summer. :)

( I do hope I get to work rooms as well, though. I'd miss doing cases!)

Did you take a travel assignment? If so how was it? I start my first endo travel job Ina few weeks.

My first is March 21st! Going to Boulder, CO. What about you?

Heading to Dallas Tx March 1st. I am a bundle of nerves for some reason. Lol

I think that's totally NL!

I'm leaving an amazing job that I've been at x11 yrs. But I'm just SO ready for a change. I feel even if I fail epically I at least tried something new. LOL

Keep me posted on how you're doing! :)

I am in Texas now. Start orientation Friday. I'll let you know in a week or so how it is. Btw....do they have you floating at all? I was told I would float to recovery. Only recovery I really know is GI.

My contract states "float within skill level". Honestly, I don't really care if I get floated. I love variety. It may be tricky, though. I haven't worked med/surg. x17 yrs! They'd have to be super patient. Guess we'll see! From the sounds of things they are pretty desperate for nurses in the GI lab that can tech in the rooms. So I'm probably pretty safe from too much floating.

I've only recovered GI pts. as well. So that will also be interesting, as I'll be working in the outpatient area of the hospital. So the pre-op & PACU is actually for ALL the outpatient procedures (incl. GI).

I'll keep you posted! You do the same. :)

Had my first day. Everything on the unit went well. Only problem I have had was the hospital wanted all of the health stream done prior to start and no time was given during orientation and since this place is a training/research hospital I needed to complete the IRB which my agency never gave me. No biggie. Spent the weekend doing it and got paid. I hope you have a smooth transition and everyone is welcoming to you.

Good for you!!! I hope your whole assignment is a success. Happy travels....I'm right behind you. Mine starts in 2 wks. :)
