Hi there Sandra!! I knew there was someone out there who would be starting GBCN in the fall. I am very excited, but scared and nervous at the same time!! Hopefully I have not gotten in over my head!! Though all the hospitals I have talked to seem to think GBCN is one of the best in ATL for graduating nurses who know what they are doing once they get on the floor.

Do you know anyone else who is attending already or will be starting in the fall?

We will see!

I wish I knew someone attending GBCN! I did hear it was a great school from nurses. I have so many questions, I'm also scared about going into the program. Now that I got in, I question whether it's going to be too much!! I guess it's fear of the unknown. Are you going to orientation next month?

Welcome to the GBCN family!

I hope this will be an exciting new venture in your lives. I am currently a student and will be a junior in the fall. If you have any questions PM me.

Sandra -

I completely agree with you! I have not received my orientation information yet, though I have received the uniform ordering material and the class information and schedule for 2006 - 2007. What date is your orientation next month? Do you know if there are multiple orientation dates or just one?

Thanks One03grad! I'm sure we'll have tons of questions to ask you!

Mt-Not sure if there will be more orientation dates...I'm going to the July 26 orientation. I'm sure you'll get that info soon!! I haven't ordered the uniforms yet, I'm tickled that they are all-white!! I'm notorious for getting coffee and ink stains on everything I own!

I called and was told there are two orientation programs. One at the end of July and another middle of August. So will be interested to see which orientation date I am assigned.

I too am nervous and scared, but it seems GBCN is the best place to go for a nursing program in GA as far as helpful instructors, administrative staff, hands on experience, etc.

I called the college yesterday, once again (the poor people in the office already know me by name ), and everyone I spoke with was so friendly and patient with me. So hopefully that is a sign of things to come!! I will let you know what date I will be attending orientation once I find out!

I thought that school closed years ago. It used to be a 3-year "diploma" RN program as I understand it with lots of hands-on. Is that still the case or have they started something new? I live in Atlanta metro. What used to be Georgia Baptist is now Atlanta Medical, right?

Atlanta Medical Center is where the old Georgia Baptist school was. GBCN is now a part of Mercer University Atlanta campus, which is the same university that is down in Macon too. They only offer a BSN, RN-BSN, and MSN, no more diploma programs. Check out the website at http://www.mercer.edu.

It is a BSN program with 3 years of clinicals beginning the first semester of the actual nursing program (begins with sophmore year). I was introduced to the program by a friend of mine who did the RN-BSN bridge program at GBCN. She just raved about her nursing school experience. After researching the program I knew it was for me. All the hospitals in the Atlanta area that I have spoken with all cannot say enough good things about the program and the grads who come out of it. The hospital recruiters are so excited for me, the response I hear over and over is that the nurses are confident and competent when they hit the floor in the "real world of nursing".

It is expensive, but from what I have heard well worth the cost. I am a second degree student and this time I want to do it right. If you are looking into nursing school I highly recommend you take a look at the program. Now for me, I just have to make it through the program:idea:
