Hello all,
Anyone who has applied to el centro nursing program for spring 08...has anyone gotten an acceptance letter yet???
Let me know what info you have...thanks
Glad I'm not the only one!
I've been mentally preparing myself for this since i rec'd my acceptance letter but it's still shocking. Same thing with orientation. i had prepared myself for the costs but was still a huge shock when I saw the price of the book box and all the other misc. things we had to spend $ on.
Well, i just fixed a nice cup of tea and about to curl up in my bed with my laptop and work on these modules and medspub.
I don't think there are too many NLC people on here. I did have a chance to meet 4mylife today during class. I might have to do some advertising on Wednesday @ lecture and get some more people to get on here.
I hope to start NLC Fall '08...Can you give me an idea of what I will need to get before classes start so maybe I can start accumulating them before then?
black shoes, no clogs, with black pants - I think
stethoscope
bandage scissors
what else??
Also, I've seen mention of Medspub. What is this?
Any books or references I can buy early?
Thanks for any information you can pass on!!
I was trying to think of some helpful info for you but I can't. The only thing that I would start stocking up on is money. I didn't exactly plan financially for starting NS and now I'm regretting it and it's only been a week since we started. I know that seems like an obvious resource to stock up on, but it's the best one that I can think of right now. The only other one that I can think of is a book/class on critical thinking. Try checking out a NCLEX test review book from the library. They seem to show you how to prepare for nursing exam style questions. Don't get discouraged because you don't have the nursing knowlege to answer them, but look at the strategies they provide on how to answer.
I wish I had better info for you, but I don't. maybe someone else can chime in with something additional.
As far as medspub, I'm still trying to figure out what it is exactly. Seems like a tutorial type program. i think you can only access it through the school program as opposed to buying a subscription on your own.
I read the Potter and Perry (can't remember the title) book almost cover to cover in between the time I took HPRS summer '07 and Dec. '08. It helped me understand some of the procedures that we are currently discussing in class.
I'm planning to apply for the ADN Spring 09 El Centro/Northlake program. I'm stressing over my GPA, since it seems as though this is the first criteria for being accepted into the program.
How is GPA calculated? Of the five prereqs, I have 4 -A's, and 1-C. SCIT 1407 -A - that's 4 times 4 hours for a total of 16.
Anyway my total points are 53 divided by 15 hours for a 3.53. Is that how's they calculate the GPA?
Any advise on taking Dr. ******** Anatomy tests?
Nrenteria -- Just google "GPA calculator" fill in the blanks with grades and credit hours and presto...you have your GPA.
Chickpea9 -- Good luck on your second week !!!
Maurabartley -- I have to agree with Chickpea9 on having $$$ available or loans when you enter the nursing program. Spent more than $1000.00 in just a couple of days for books/tuition,essentials,etc.

Just wanted to check-in on everyone and see how their 1st week of NS went/is going? Me, myself, and I are starting to come out of the initial shock from Monday. I'm glad I have this Thurs-Monday to play catch up and get organized.
