i have a 36 yo very naieve sister, who is a cna. she loves what she does; er mostly. she told me once.

quote: ya know, i'm a virgin and shouldn't have to wash those men's private parts.:lol2:

she has entertained me over the years with such remarks as these, and when she's around, i don't need a comedian. the best part is, she doesn't realize she's saying anything funny. i love her to pieces.

do you have anything to share about things you have heard from naieve medical personnel? if so, would you care to share?

It never amazes me just how ignorant some people can be.... During a discussion about the benefits of breast-feeding babies, i shared with my co-worker that i breast fed my son until he started to "cut teeth". After making this statement, my co-worker stared at me with a blank expression. (I'm a black woman and my co-worker is white). She then looks at me with wild-eyed amazement and asked me if my milk came out brown:uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3:

It could have been worse...she could've asked if you make chocolate milk??

At my workplace we were hosting an RN student(soon to graduate) and one day while watching the change of shift narcotic count she asked me if we had to count these every week. She speechless when we told her it was every shift. :lol2:

My sister is a non-traditional nursing student at the age of 42. She has a lot of aches and pains but I can't stand it when she constantly talks about her ARF-RITIS. :banghead:

a man to that!

Though this isn't about medically naive stuff, it certainly belongs in the naive category!! When I was in my last semester of nursing school (in a big city) I had a clinical rotation in a Catholic mental health facility. I was there one day with a classmate who was from a very small town. The charge nurse asked both of us if we would like to go to the Chapel before report started as it was Ash Wednesday.

My classmate declined, and the charge nurse looked over at me. I declined as well, and this classmate bursts out with, "Well, Duh! She's not Catholic, She's Oriental!!!" Um, yeah, did I mention I'm the first Asian this girl had ever met? And it was our last semester in school...

The charge nurse was speechless and I tried to hold back the laughter myself. :yeah:

OMG... Although I'm white, I grew up in Hawaii, and it irks when me when people call Asians oriental. "Oriental" is an adjective used for rugs!

Well the same can be said about people calling white people"white" or black people"black". Unless you are the color of paper then you are not white, more like a peach,or some a bronze/tan color; and unless a person of color is the color of a piece of coal then they are not black(more like mocha, chocolate, caramel, etc). lets face it most terms used to describe race are incorrect.:specs:

I guess I overlooked the Asian/Oriental thing because I get called Oriental all the time. I was more shocked at the fact that this girl thought I couldn't be Catholic because I'm Asian. Most people would find it hard to believe Asians are Christian. Guess it would shock them to know that there's a huge Jewish population in China.

elfish that's cute!!LOL
