Funny Nursing/medical Phrases

I worked SDS yest and the OR was having a mock fire drill that the sup had to go to. The board called back to see if she was ready and the HUC said

"Yes, ______ will be there as soon as she gets dressed." :lol2:

We started laughing and said do you know how that sounded?

Then we got on the subject of how some of the things we say are quite funny and unique to our profession. Then the anesthesiologist chimed in and said that when he had a pregnant pt he went in and said to her

"Have I been w/ you before?" :rolleyes::lol2:

We all got a good laugh and I was wondering if any of you have phrases that sound one way but are intended for another?:confused:

Ran into a former ER pt at a local grocery store...I said..."I didn't recognize you, you are vertical"...We both turned a little red...:rolleyes:

I work NICU and one of the moms was talking about circumcision for her baby. Her OB was going to be out of town when the baby was to be discharged and she was thinking of which other doctor she would like to do it. Next sentence out of moms mouth was "really, I'd do it with any of the OBs." Ha, we all got a good laugh at that. There was another nurse who walked by right at that moment without hearing the rest of the conversation and she stopped and had to be filled in. It was pretty funny.

Working in the cath lab we wear scrubs all the time and when I see someone out and about in town, I have been told that they didn't recognize me in clothes. :bugeyes:

Not necessarily a funny phrase, but this is my ice breaker with patients:

Pt. wakes up in his room after surgery with the blinds closed.

Pt. asks the surgeon: "Why are my blinds closed?"

Surgeon says: "There's a fire outside your window, and we didn't want you to wake up and think you were somewhere else."
