Thank you for taking the time to help me solve this mystery. I think that the area is so gray and so very passionately defended on either side by both nurses and doctors. There really should be a formal study done on this topic. For now I will follow the advice of my NM and my BNE do not do anything I am uncomfortable with and do not perform any nursing action I have not been properly or formally trained in. Thank you again!

Let ONE uterine rupture occur, and it show on the record YOU or the dr employed fundal pressure....then see what happens. Not worth the risk.

I can't believe anyone still defends fundal pressure! What's their argument?

The midwife that is requesting it is from another country and she is saying that it helps a tired mom to expell the fetus faster. While I feel there are many other ways to help a tired mom we are a natural birthing center and do not have vacuum or forceps. I will make alternative suggestions in the future. From what I have read there are still many Docs using fundal pressure and resent the fact that nurses don't perform it without question. One line read said "it is just another way for nurses to feel smarter than us (doctors)" and then he went on about his 8 years versuses our 4, anyway. The fundal pressure question has been resolved in my mind for now. I will not do anything I am not trained formally to do and I will always be an advocate for my laboring patient because if I am not who is? I appreciate all your help with this question and I am sure with all my future experiences I will have a million more.

I don't know any docs who use fundal pressure, or who defend the practice.

In the location of where I am there are many docs and midwifes who do and I am not going to perform it. I read posts on another site that docs were saying they use it and don't understand the big deal. I do understand now and I will not perform it as I am not trained and do not believe it to beneficial to the patient. I appreciate your comment. Thank you
