Full vs part time scheduling rights

My unit is considering changing our scheduling so full time employees have first choice then part time followed by prn. Part time employees are still expected to meet their weekend, holiday and hours of work commitment. Does your unit differentiate between full and part time choice of hours? Do you rotate so that everyone has a chance for first choice on hours? Please let me know. Thanks!

I don't think scheduling, or anything else, should be based on seniority. Everyone is in the same boat. Everyone should carry their own weight, regardless of time employed.

Where I worked, we signed up for our shifts. FT first, PT next, and PRN last. It worked fine.

I think FT and PT should have the same priority. Where I work, we all put our requests in and the admin manager makes the schedule. I'm not sure how she decides who gets what. I am PT and am generally happy w/ my schedule. I do notice, though, that I get a lot of comments from my FT co-workers regarding how cushy they think my schedule is. (Not the actual days I work but the fact that I work 2days/wk.) I feel as if some of them resent me for it. I don't think that's fair. There is one coworker who hits me up to swap out days w/ him EVERY time I see him. As if I don't have a life of my own. I have gotten to the point where I avoid him b/c I have trouble saying no. I picked my days for a reason and I don't want to always change my schedule so he can get 4 or 5 days off in a row. I make sacrifices so that I can work less time and spend more time at home w/ my kids. I don't think I should get the slim pickings after the FT staff schedule themselves. I have the same family commitments as anybody else and there are certain days I can't work due to my kids' activities and my husbands schedule. I would like to have the same access as anybody else to getting those days off.

Disclaimer: I am not judging the choices of FT employees. I know they make sacrifices for their families as well and many cannot survive w/o working FT. No flaming, please :-)
