FSW Fall 2015

Published

Florida Southwestern State College formerly Edison State College. I started thread for FSW but it is full with spring applicants. So I decided to start a new one for this upcoming fall.

Who is joining me next fall in nursing?

I plan to apply for Part-time or Lee full time. I have one more semester of pre-requisites. I am taking A&P 1, Micro, College Algebra and Nutrition. Kill me now. :arghh: lol A full time semester of craziness but almost done after that hopefully with pre-requisites with the exemption of A&P 2 and a humanities class.

I plan to take the Hesi in mid Feb or march and retake if needed at the end of April. Schedule has been posted and I plan to study a lot this winter break. So excited but so nervous.

Okay so I haven't been on in a while I apologize if I'm repeating something everyone knows. I ran my degree evaluation and realized that statistics and the writing intensive humanities is now required. I went to advising on the Collier Campus. The advisor there told me he thought it was for next Spring applicants but when he called the nursing office he was told that because our class is considered part of the new catalog that yes, it will be required for us to get our AS.

Where are you guys seeing this? Im still missing writing intensive humanities, statistics & a&p 2 and I dont see none of this my degree evaluation.

I went in and talked to advising, here is the scoop for lee campus....the advisor called the supervisor in...she then called the deancalled of the school....he sent her a letter stating that for students whom were admitted into the program (may deadline) are grandfathered in and that mac1105 will work instead of sta2023...there was nothing about the WRI humanities course but she said we wont need to worry about it. In the instance you plan on working towards your BSRN, i was told that most ASRN students will only have to comply with the BSRN courses. Also if you have a previous AS from another school, you will not be required to complete the AA through FSW, only the extra online courses for 1 year for your BSRN. You will have to go through the application and acceptance thing we did for the ASRN program

Yes we need the influenza shot...if the health department has run out, try a walgreens or publix...also, HEP A and HEP B are up to you...cheapeast place for all the ***** and bloodwork was through lee memorial employee health...however, they dont have the HEP A, only the health department or your doctors office....the color test can be from any previous health new employee physical...or you just fill in the blank and the doctor signs the form

I'm curious, will most of you be working while in the program? I'm in the FT program and really want to work, but I don't know if that will be too much. I wish I knew some students already in the program to get some insight.

I'll be working part time in the part time program. I was a full time employee but I decided it would be best for my family if I dropped down to part time. I have children, so they take up much of that other time I have and I don't want to have to lose it with them because of work or school. I can tell you, working full time 40+ hours and going to school full time in general can be a struggle though. I tried that and I couldn't be a good manager and I good student at the same time. I ended up failing a class, and had to retake it. And that was just prerequisites...everyone is different though.

On the degree eval it now says I need statistics for the ASN. i went ahead and looked up the course and saw there was a online class...so I registered to take it and get it out of the way. I'll double check with my advisor but I doubt we won't be required to take it now.

I'm bad at college algebra so I took statistics instead knowing I'd need it for my BSN anyway. Now I'm glad I did.

Im not sure they want us to work full time....in the handbook it said if you are coming off a full work shift, you will not be allowed to attend any clinicals or stimulation labs....think of it as you would be working close to 80 hrs per week....part timetime, no problem they said, but they really want you to focus...thats why they asked ehere you worked, how many hours, etc on yhe student data form...they are required to call and see if /how many hours you worked prior to the upcoming shift

I'm working full-time at CCH and am in the FT program. I am going to continue working FT and then make a decision once I see how things go. I already informed my Director that there is a possibility that I will go part time. That's looking better and better to me each day lol.

Yes, which hospital did you pick ?

I picked North Naples, you? I live in Bonita so its closer for me.

Im confused.. im looking at the classes and alot of the CRNS are not even on there. Are we able to pick any class? Im lee full time so im lookin at the lee campus classes. I cant sign up yet, it says i have to talk to an advisor í ½í¸¡

For the books, they didnt send the isbn numbers?

If you had chickenpox, you still need the Ab titer.

Okay thankyou ! I actually had varicella x2 vaccines didn't read where it says it can substitute for the titer!😁😁

And if I have mmrx2 I don't need mumps rubella and rubeola on the immunization page right?? 😪

Also do you mean the hepatitis a and b vaccines ? I have those but not the Anti-hbs titer. But if you meant anti hbs titer I was told I didn't need it?? zz
