Hello!
I haven't seen a thread for FSCJ Spring 2016, so I thought I'd start one. Who all is planning on applying for this term start? If anyone is in the program already, any advice??
Look forward to chatting with you all. :)
Did anyone else get a misprinted page in the packet that said our physicals must be done "after November 1"? That would leave only one day to get them. Ms. James sent me a corrected page that said October 1, but I wondered if word got around to everyone effected. For the record, "Physical exam must be completed after*October 1, 2015..."
Casey, I took the CNA course at cna training Jacksonville - It's in Orange Park, but a very popular place to get your license. They do it all, including fingerprints/background check. And the instructor is pretty awesome.
Getting a job as a CNA is tough, but if you can get in at a hospital, it'll help once you're done with nursing school. I'm currently at a nursing home and waiting to complete a full year and get into the program so I can start reapplying to the hospitals.
Hi guys!
Congrats to all who got into the program! I'm looking to apply to the Summer or Fall 2016 program. Would anyone be willing to e-mail me the program application so I can start calculating my points? [email protected]
Thanks!

Thank you for your response. How long have you been a CNA? I really would like to have that as an option but I just don't know what term I'm going to get accepted in. If I get accepted to Summer term, then I wouldn't have much time to get my license and find a job. I'm just weighing my options. I know it's hard to maintain a job during the program but I really want the experience.

The course I took is only 3 weeks, though there is a longer option. I don't believe it's necessary. Getting a job depends on if you have any connections. (For example, I got my job because my mom works at the nursing home as well and the director's known me since I was in high school.) You just have to find a way in. I've only been a CNA for a year.
And if you really have the option, then do it. Every nurse (BSN/RN/LPN) I've ever talked to says the same thing: Start as a CNA! Both for the experience and so that you can truly appreciate the work your CNAs do for you when you become a nurse.

Ok, thank you for your advice and information!

Where did everyone go for their CPR/BLS Cert? I have no idea where to go or what a reasonable price for the course is. I'm from Gainesville and recently moved to the Orange Park area.
I got mine at first coast CPR in south point. There are places in OP to get it too if you don't want to drive that far but this place is reasonably priced and the instructor is pretty cool. Small classes as well. I think I paid $45

LOL nursing assistant classes are ONLY 4 DAYS AT Acumen CNA training classes. Three weeks is a complete waste of time. Acumen CNA training center has a 97% pass rate on the state exam. The three week course is 800 dollars and Acumen is only $245. Get your fingerprints first then enroll in the class.

I was looking at that option. Thank you.

Congratulations to everyone who got in. I got denied, but was ranked 220. I will apply again for Summer. I have a question to anyone who can answer it... I was thinking about becoming a CNA in the mean time and maybe keeping that job while I am going through nursing school, whenever that may be. How do I go about becoming a CNA? And how long does it usually take? I know FSCJ had a program or classes for it at some point but I'm not sure if they still have it. I'm doing as much research as I can but I still can't seem to find anything on it. Thanks in advance!
