Hello!
I haven't seen a thread for FSCJ Spring 2016, so I thought I'd start one. Who all is planning on applying for this term start? If anyone is in the program already, any advice??
Look forward to chatting with you all. :)
For those that took classes over the Summer, how long did it take for your transcript to update on Connections? I want to submit my application but my summer classes are not showing.
When did your classes end? Mine are both in there and the last official day of class was the 26th. My A&P2 grade took an extra day, but I e-mailed the professor and it's been fixed. (Apparently there was a technical difficulty of some sort.)
Thanks Jess, I won't let it discourage me from applying to get in. I know I have the points to have a really good chance. Now I have to find something to occupy my time until the summer because all of my pre-reqs are completed. I don't want to take a CNA course because I've heard being a CNA will burn you out before school.
Yeah I am the same way, I have my AA so I don't really have anything to do nursing related while waiting but I'm also enrolled at JU so I'm working on a Psy degree from there. If you plan on going further and getting a BSN you can always start the prereq's for that too if you haven't already. I had to have them for my bachelors at JU so I have all of that. That's why I started a second degree.

I have heard that it would be good to study up on dosage calculations. Maybe you can be ahead of the game if you already familiarize yourself with things like that. I am unfortunately still doing my prereqs for my AA so that fills up all of my time. I wish I could take a semester and not have anything to do. Got to keep pushing through though.
In my AP2 class we had a current nursing student come in to talk about the program and what advice she had for us future students. She really emphasized reviewing all your anatomy and physiology stuff. Her best tip on that was to just read through the AP book and make sure you're comfortable with all the material. Another bit of advice she gave was to start brushing up on pharmacology and the terms. She said the best way to know what to study was to go to quizlet.com and look up "FSCJ Pharm". Oh, and she said that they do a quiz on the very first day of the term, so be prepared. If I'm not mistaken, it covers conversions and dosages. I'll have to check my notes when I'm back home.
Quoting myself from a couple pages back in case anyone didn't see. I plan on studying to prepare for the first semester, as this is all new to me. I also checked my notes from when the nursing student was there and wanted to add this:
* A&P is very important for nursing, should know technique/fundamentals for health assessments (head to toe)
* pharmacology is the most difficult, on quizlet.com search "FSCJ Pharm" - there should be 6 units
* for the drugs you need to know: why? how much? who not to give to? duration? peak? foods affected?
* there are 4 classes in the semester, every Monday there are 1-2 tests
* quiz on the very first day!!
She told us to be prepared to hit the ground running. That once the semester starts, it's basically non-stop. If I'm not mistaken she was either on her last or second-to-last semester.
I just called the nursing dept bc I had a question on the application and she said I only need to fill out page 18. Is that correct? Thanks!
Its 17/18, on some of the packets it is front & back and others it is two separate pages. When I turned in my application I had a couple of the other pages filled out and she handed them back to me and only kept those two.
