I scanned the threads and didn't see one for this class set up yet. I'm applying at the end of the semester. Anyone else?
Here's the issue with E-books. She told you all the perks of them but none of the issues. Having used ebooks, there are two kinds. Ones where you get the PDF's and can move on with life and those with proprietary software that sux. If they gave you the pdf's then you could use them on your kindle, e-reader, iphone/ipad, anything. I started digging around at their software when I got home and quite frankly it blows. I can find any file on my mac with spotlight in under a second or two. With their stuff it takes like a minute to search a 400 page book. You can download one copy to one computer. You can't move it without tech support doing it for you. Which is great if you're using the same computer you've always used. If you think you'll get a new computer in the next two years brush up on your indian tech support. The rest of the access to your books relies on streaming the book/notes to you through their website which is painfully slow. Their iphone/ipad application gets 1.4 out of 5 stars. Complaints ranging from, crashes all the time, my books arn't there, nothing syncd and this is a POS. Considering you can't rate an app zero out of 5.. 1.4 is about as close to dead last as you get. I'm trying to find the PDF's of the books because I'm not going to blow all this money on crap.
As to people on financial aid complaining about how much they get for books. They should shut it. Some of us work and have to pay the full price for books and ever increasing property taxes. The estimate for books was in the application, if you couldn't float it, you shouldn't have applied. I'm sure many lower than 194 could have. Don't cry that you're not getting enough free stuff on the dole of someone else.

THANKS for this!! I was seriously trying to figure out which way to go but after reading this you've helped me to confirm that I want "print".
I was hoping to get both the hard copies and the ebooks to help with writing papers, but if its that crappy, I'll stick with the old fashioned books. I have a hard time learning from ebooks anyway. I'm going to get the rest of the books - except for rn notes - on Amazon. They're a lot cheaper, even for new.

You do know that financial aid is also student loans too, right? not just free money? you know student loans the loans you have to pay back when you graduate. I work full-time and I don't know how I would come up with almost $1000 for books and $1300 for tuition without student loans. I know people where complaining but maybe everyone is not as financially as stable as yourself, everyone's situation is different.
If you noticed today some of those complaining about the costs werent there today (Friday). I agree all we all opted to be there, no one said it was going to be an easy ride. I found the orientation to be well organized and they pretty much stayed on schedule. I did think much of the audience wasnt to friendly to the gal from the book company. I have been out looking at IPads today, I am seriously thinking about getting one along with the Ebook down load. I can put up with a slower search mode to save on my back from toting overside loads of book between classes. I have a brother that is a IT Director in South Florida and will get his opinion. So I am all registered and looking forward to Christams break, i have several "hunny do's" to complete before school starts back up...Merry Christmas everyone looking forward to seeing you all next year.....
I searched through abes books tonight and got everything I needed for $94.88. I found the assessment movies online. The "lab and diagnostic tests" book is available as an international edition. $37 new delivered. Best deal of the day was I got a used copy of the dosage calculations book for $3.70 with $3.50 shipping. got a 6th edition "fund of nursing" for $1 with $4 shipping. It's one edition behind but I think it will be fine. Can't complain on used. I've got about 35-40 ebooks if people want them. They are for the same classes just different authors. I also found a second set of assessment videos that are much better than the mosby's. I should note if you do search abes.. you need to be aware of isbn numbers and which version of the book you are getting. They've got versions on there printed in 1993. So the cheapest isn't always the one you want.
Kris ,
where did you find the ISBN numbers for the additional books? Would you mind posting those? Thanks so much , I got my navy polo shirts and I'm going to have to send them back as they are too small. I ordered a 2x and after these are washed they will be way too small. I've already had to send back uniform tops and lab coat. I tried to tell them I needed tall sizes and they wouldnt listen darn it...

I asked them if they had any 2xlt's when they were there and she tried to tell me a 2x would work but when I looked at it, I'd be "showing midriff". They sell "talls" but they're "2 week special order". I'm just going to find a blue polo that fits and then use my moms embroidery machine and make my own. PM me your email and I'll email you the pictures I took of the tags for the books. The book store has a list of every book, it's edition, and author. Would have been nice to have had that the first day instead of the crap promo book list.
Congrats to all of you who made it into the program. If you haven't heard the word, those with financial aid will see a significant increase in book authorization fund amounts. We now get $80/credit hour for a max $960.00 allowable for book purchases. So hopefully this will help with the box o'books purchase or whatever ever else you want to buy at the bookstore. You just need to bring in your essential card Details are on the school website and by email

Hey how did you get registered? I tried adding the classes but they aren't there?
Also, I also stumbled across the idea of getting an ipad until I read some reviews on tablet pc's, almost same screen size, android OS and it is only like $180! They have websites offering awesome deals on them right now. As soon as I get it I am taking it to IT so I can get it on the tablet PC and my home computer.

Yeah, it was a lot of stuff. It is significantly better organized than it was 3 years ago, though! Or I thought so at least. I thought it was all great minus the person who was like snapping and yelling and thinking they were the only one in the orientation. That would be a blast to be in the group project for concepts with! Does anyone have any experience with e-books? I have never used any and find this option interesting.
