Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.
it's been said already but let me reiterate: focus on your medical terminology and dosage calc. You don't want lower grades on those because they are worth a lot of points and are easy to get 100% on them. Pharm, though terrifying, will be there. Take this time to relax. No matter what kind of jump start you think you can get -- and I am a type A, anal individual myself who thought the same thing -- it won't make a lot of sense until you are actually there. Relax while you can! Your life is about to not be your own any more. Learn the dosage and med terms and then relax. The rest will be there, I promise.
Also, we will be around for questions and assistance. I have amazing notes for all classes that I am happy to share when the time comes. I am also a bit of a Pharm geek and have no problem clarifying something you might be confused about, so you will have help. Breathe. Please listen to the rest of us when we tell you to enjoy the time where you only have Med Terms and Dosage to focus on, lol.
So, I've scheduled for my fingerprint, urinanalysis and have my background check confirmation. The actual finger print and urinanalysis will be done on Monday. I will also be getting all my titers, vaccine, ppd test and physical on Monday as well. I've ordered my uniforms. I will try to turn in all my background info on Monday. I'll buy my blue polos then and possibly do the scavenger hunt.
From what I hear, there is a dosage and medical terminology test at orientation? Is this taken seriously or will it impact our course grades in any way? I would like to be sent the review material as well at [email protected].
My other questions are:
1. Can anyone verify the cost of the nursing skills kit, where to purchase it and when the info regarding it will be given to us. Is the the BP cuff included in it or must we buy separately? What about the 6in cm ruler, bandage (scissors), and the 6in hemostat? Will these be included in the nursing skills kit?
2. How much will the books cost for the first term and will the books be a one time purchase? Meaning is it a package for the whole program or do we buy different books every semester?

Thank you!!! All she said here is 100% correct! Do NOT bother with those notes until you're there. You will only confuse yourself and get even more overwhelmed as well. A lot of us are those plan ahead, get a jump start on everything as soon as we can, and in normal college that is great, but this is a whole different ballgame.
Do not study these notes and get something in your head and then find out when you get to class you've misinterpreted it and then have to unlearn what you thought it meant or what you read. Not worth it.
I know it is exciting to want to see material ahead of time, but this one, I swear, we will beat a dead horse--Focus on completing that packet, studying your medical terminology, and learning that dosage calc!!!
And once again, RELAX, RELAX, RELAX, RELAX...there will be hardly no time for that when you start classes....AT ALL!!!!
I would love the the pharmacology and Nursing techniques notes please! My email is [email protected]. Thank you so much for sharing!!! :)
Could you send the notes to me as well? [email protected]
Thanks!
The lottery will take place on Orientation after they go over the program, rules, expectations, et cetera. You will all go out in the hallway and draw a number from a basket. That number will determine the order you pick your schedule and cohort, aka, section. Sections are divided and paired together -- 1 and 2 have the same schedule but different clinical sites, 2 and 3 have the same schedule but different clinical sites, and so on and so forth. You will see the different schedules ahead of time and then when you draw your number, you will get in line to choose. When a section is filled, they will make an announcement. This continues until all sections are filled and all students are placed. You will remain with your section throughout the duration of the program.
