FSCJ Fall 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.

Thank you for your post! Thats great news! Also, what was your prereq score and your NAT score that was used for summer enrollment?

For anyone who has tips on the NAT please contact me: [email protected]

I don't have any great tips for the NAT, but I got in for the summer and i got i think it was 99 points on the NAT, and all I can say is focus on time. Time will be a big challenge. I bought a practice book and did the practice test and did those. Make sure you answer every question, and if you don't know it skip it and come back to it.

I agree time is a huge factor! During the academic aptitude part like math, if the problem is going to take you a while move on to the next, essentially I focused on the pattern questions. I also found it was helpful to go over the questions for the reading comprehension and then read the passage so that you would know what you are looking for. I am applying with 110 points for the NAT for the fall semester.

Hi ladies,

I have sent my application for the fall as well. I really need this and hope that I will get into the program this fall. I did not do so good on NAT but I sent in my application anyway! I have been out of school since 2008 and had 3 beautiful babies since then! Now Im ready to get back into it! Im trying to stay positive and hoping for the best outcome! When I took the NAT this past month at south campus the computer kept freezing up on me. The lady advised me that they switched to some new website, which was extremely frustrating! For me the NAT reading was really difficult and I didn't have enough time to even read the passages!

Have you guys sent in your applications yet if so how many points did you guys have?

Hi Amela2014, welcome. :) I know how you feel, I really hope to get in this fall too. I am sorry to hear that you didn't do as good as you wanted to on the NAT, I didn't either. That is crazy that you had to go through that with the computer freezing up on top of the stress you probably had about the test itself (that is such a stressful test for many people btw). I didn't really read he passages, I just read all the questions and skimmed through the passages for the answers and when I had some extra time left after I answered all the questions, I went back and checked my answers. I suggest that you do not take it at the south campus anymore, because that most likely made a difference in how you performed on the test.

I have not sent my application in yet, because I plan to retake the NAT in late May to give me as much time as possible to study for it. I will turn my application in on the day I take it, which will be on the 28th or 29th, hopefully. I applied to the summer with 169.96 total points. I had a C in my humanities class that I applied with so I took a different humanities that the nursing program accept and made an A in it, so now my score is 175.96. I am currently taking statistics to replace my B in college algebra, so when I am done with that class, my score will be 178.96. I am hoping to do good enough on the NAT to get my score up to at least 190 from there. What score do you have?

Hello everyone!!

I am also applying for the fall term this year and I wanted to start in the conversations and maybe get some encouragement. Right now I am in micro and statistics and I have an A in both classes. I want to share my info and get feedback on it and will read whatever people would like to say back! My NAT score right now is 94.72 and my grade points so far if I get A's in micro and statistics will come out to 99 points. Even if I get a B in micro (which I am doing everything to get that A! lol) I will have 95 points for my grades. So with the A's my score would be 193.72 and the B would be 189.72. I know the cutoffs from this years spring and summer term and last falls also. I think I have a really good chance but I am just so nervous, as I am sure as everyone else is!!! But I am retaking the NAT at the end of this month and I know I will boost my score because I didn't even finish a few questions on the reading. Also, I have 2 years of work experience so that would bring my final total, with the current NAT, to either 203.72 or 199.72 (depending on micro).

I feel like I should be fine but you never know what the cutoff for this fall could be! I talked to Cheryl and she said there are only 144 students being accepted for fall. One of the guys in my micro class got accepted into the summer term this year and there were only 91 students who were accepted and the cutoff was 185.5 This is just so nerve racking and it isn't even the end of the deadline yet!!! lol!

I do not know how to work this cite but if anyone has any tips on taking the NAT please contact me! I got a 82.74 the first time and am taking it again on May 6th! If you have any tips at all please message me, my email is [email protected] or text me at 407-242-4137, any tip is better than no tip! Also, any guys out there applying for fall? Thank you everyone!

Hello everyone!!

Also, I have 2 years of work experience so that would bring my final total, with the current NAT, to either 203.72 or 199.72 (depending on micro).

What kind of work experience do you have? I emailed Cheryl about the experience and they are very specific about work experience. When I told her I got my EMT cert. and got hired at an emergency room, all she replied was, "Your letter from your employer must state that you worked as an EMT to count." Sounded like such a general answer. I think it's strange that a MA, Respiratory Therapist, EMT on an ambulance gets work experience but PCT's/ACP's do not get work experience points. I went to FSCJ for my EMT 4 years ago and got a job in an emergency room here in town and that didn't get me any work experience points. It's frustrating because how many Respiratory therapists or EMT's on ambulances are going back to RN school vs. PCT's/ACP's/CNA's who work directly with nurses.

It's just frustrating because I got denied summer term but if my experience points counted, I would have had enough to get in. I known I can do better on the NAT, but it's strange to me that the positions that work directly with nurses don't receive any extra points.

For those of you who are planning to retake the NAT, I have some killer tips for improving your scores. Feel free to contact me and I'll gladly give 'em up to you. A friend of ours brushed up on material with Jenn and I, and we all improved our scores tremendously and ending up applying with scores from 191 up into the 200's.

Anyway, good luck to everyone!

I need to retake the NAT too, could you email me the tips? Thanks so much! [email protected]

Hi, all!

I see I've had a lot of responses for NAT tips here. I find the private messages to be a hassle on this site, so what I would like to do is this: I'll post my email address here, and those of you wanting NAT tips, shoot me an email there. I'll put you all in a group in my gmail and send the tips out to all of you at the same time to make sure that no one gets left out!

[email protected]

Best of luck to those of you who have applied already!

I talked to cheryl just a couple days ago and it turns out that I will only have one year of work experience instead of the two years because the first year I worked as an EMT was on my town's rescue squad which was volunteer run. I think that is ridiculous because I worked full time and I responded to 911 calls with direct patient care and assessing. Just because I wasn't paid means I didn't get the experience?! However, with my grades and my one year of experience I will still have a 198.72 and I will be retaking the NAT soon so I will hopefully boost it a couple more points! Cheryl said that I had to have the letter say my dates of employment, my job title and saying I had direct patient care to count. Also on company letterhead with their signature.

What was your overall score that you applied with for the summer term? They are so strict on experience! But then again it is very competitive!! Are you reapplying for fall? How many points will you have then?
