FSCJ Fall 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.

I have only Micro left. I have a 104 with my pre-reqs but I did horribly on my NAT(70.4). I plan on waiting until the end of april to retake the NAT. I didn't study the first time since I knew I could retake again before the fall. Based on my last score I will be starting to study soon. My husband is in the military and has decided to go to shore duty next December, which means we will be moving, so the fall semester is really my only hope to get into. Good luck in your stats class. I took it last semester and found it to be fairly easy.

That's great. I know you will be happy to finally be done with all your pre-reqs. That isn't too bad considering that you did not study for it. I am sure you will do great on it the next time, since you will be studying for it this time. I made a 72.96 on it, so we are in the same boat. Thanks, who did you take it with? It does seem easy. There are some parts in it that is challenging but overall it is a piece of cake, easier than college algebra. I got my denial letter in the mail yesterday. I am officially a fall hopeful now, just like I had a gut feeling I would be.

I don't remember the guy's name. I took it at Nassau Campus. He gave us notes and we could use the notes on all the tests. I am a bit of a math nerd and took the stats class just for fun, maybe that's why it was so easy. I wasn't worried about my grade. I got my denial letter yesterday, so looks like I am officially a fall hopeful as well :). Gave me a chuckle, they didn't even bother changing it from spring to summer for my denial letter.

Hello guys and gals. I am currently a student at UNF and am looking to apply for Fall at FSCJ. Now I am a little confused and was hoping someone would help me. My friend told me that it is best to not go into the RN (A.S.N) program because I will just have to go back after that for another two years to get my BSN. Are you all applying to get into the RN program (A.S.N) or are you all applying to the BSN bridge program?

Also, currently I have a 81.95 on my NAT and I believe around 51 for my prerequisites, however that excludes, humanities, sociology, anatomy 2 and micro, just because I'm taking anatomy 2 now, micro over the summer and I'm not sure what classes that I have taken at UNF will count for sociology and humanities.

Lets just say i made B's in the remaining four classes means ill have prerequisites score of 93, so a total of 175, plus I'm retaking the NAT at the end of April. Do you all think my score in likely to get in? Please any commentary would be nice!

Welcome Jaturner1994 and thanks for joining us. I am applying to get into to A.S.N program because, it is required in order to go through FSCJ's BSN program. It is true that once you graduate from the A.S.N. program, you will have to go back to school but FSCJ's BSN program is only 1 year (4 semesters). 175 is a good score, because the cut off score for the spring term application period was 175.96. However, most people usually apply in the fall so the cut off score tends to be higher in the fall, so it would be great if you could get your total score close to 190 as possible. If you have a 188, that would be good too. When do you plan to retake the NAT?

Wow, sounds like you are very intelligent!! You will do great in nursing school! :) I am glad you are keeping your head up. We will get in soon. Our time is coming. So the denial letter is written like you applied for the spring semester?

I have always said that i don't care how long it takes or where i go as long as I end up as a Nurse, so thats my plan. I can retake the NAT after April 28th, because I have to wait 3 months so ill probably take it the beginning of May! Do you know if they take the best scores from both times you take the NAT or is it just one or the other?

and yes, I really hope i do better this time then the last! I want my score to be as close to 200 as possible! So that is my plan!

Also where is the cheapest place to get CPR certified? I still have to complete that!

That is a good attitude to have! You turn in both score sheets and they will take the best scores from both. The cheapest place for CPR is St. Vincent's. FSCJ students only have to pay $25 if it hasn't changed since I took it. the number to call is 278-4274 ext.227 It may be hard to get an answer and they never returned my phone calls when i left messages, but i finally got an answer when i called around 9 in the morning. If you don't get an answer when you call just keep trying. Someone will eventually answer.

I just got accepted for the Summer 2014 program at FSCJ and am only going for my ASN first, but here is why: I am tired of making peanuts at my current job. I need a job where I can make a good living. I will be enrolling in a BSN program as soon as I graduate with my RN. It is true, that eventually a lot of hospitals will be requiring BSNs, but very few are at the point where they will not hire if you do not have one. Most just have a clause that you have to get your BSN within 3 years or something. My aunt is a labor and delivery charge nurse here in Jacksonville, and she said every hospital is so desperate for nurses, that we do not need to worry about not getting a job even with the basic RN. I would rather become a nurse in a shorter amount of time, start working as a nurse, making good money, and then working on my BSN online, but that's me. Best of luck in whatever decision you make. And best of luck to all of you waiting for Fall. I know how grueling the wait is!

Yes. It said thank you for your application for spring term 2013. But it did have the dates right( Dec.1-Feb1) for application period. Then it told me how to apply for the summer. I'm curious, did your letter say you didn't get selected because of criteria in Steps to Applying? My letter mentions proof of Florida residency, which I did not turn in(I'm not a Florida resident). I'm wondering if this will be a problem for me in the fall. I want to make sure I got denied because of my points and not forgetting a paper so I have all the papers next time. :)

Hi, everyone. I wanted to say good luck to you all. I'm starting this May and am now going through the very long process of getting everything in order before Orientation.

Like my sister (JennJax) up there, I chose to do the ADN program first and then immediately pursue the BSN because I knew the timing would work out to be roughly the same. The ADN is sixteen months and the RN-to-BSN Bridge is twelve, so that is very close to what most of what the BSN programs are but for a much lower expense. Once I get my license, I am immediately enrolling in the bridge program, and as long as you are actively pursuing it, you shouldn't have a problem being hired as a new grad with just the RN. I'll happily work while getting it because at least I won't be broke! :)

For those of you who are planning to retake the NAT, I have some killer tips for improving your scores. Feel free to contact me and I'll gladly give 'em up to you. A friend of ours brushed up on material with Jenn and I, and we all improved our scores tremendously and ending up applying with scores from 191 up into the 200's.

Anyway, good luck to everyone!

Beatrice, I tried PMing you back but it said your inbox was full. :)
