The most important thing for you and your residents is that your heart is in your job and with your residents. I get hacked off having to empty bins etc as well but you gotta think that helps your residents in some way (albeit probably very indirectly).

We are told to think of it as holistic care.So that includes everything from washing their clothes and setting breakfast trays(done by night carers) to cleaning up spills,"they chuck it,we clean it!".Somewhere in there we also manage the more traditional roles of meds, vitals and general nursing duties!

I´ve never heard of staff washing the patients clothes in a hospital setting? I don´t mind emtying the bins( thats part of my job) but I do mind being yelled at when it´s don´t done after a very busy shift had to monitor three critical ill patients( vitals 15-30 mins between), talk and comfort some relatives of a terminally ill patient, that was in denial ( while doing the usual stuff administar 600 pills ..u know what I am talking about) I was the one in charge, but don´t expect to baysit the very qaulified staff by making sure the bins are taken care of. We were doing our best, did´nt sit down for 2 mins and after all whats most important if u need to prioritize your care?

I hear and empathize with every single thing you're saying. It just brings it home again that as far as working with the elderly goes, no matter what country nurses are in, we all speak the same language. It's really frustrating! I love LTC but I'm seriously considering a change to something else after I finish my RN.
