No worries!
The same event happened back in the supposed "Nursing Shortage" of 1995. A lot of new grads had to figure out an ingenious way of making the most of their down time while looking for a job. This year is no different.
Have you tried Mollen Immunization Clinics? http://www.mollen.com/
It is a database of immunization all over the US and they are accepting New Grad RN's to take part in seasonal flu clinics and immunizations for back-to-school time. It's sort of like the new version of Walgreens' take care clinic; a healthcare professional is on deck to help out the general public with health promotion activities.
New Grad and regular RN's have a $22.00 an hour pay and you can work up to 40 hours per week. You can also just focus on the clinic areas in your neighborhood so that you won't have to travel too far. The job lasts from September to December.
See if that interests you or something else along those lines so that you can still be healthcare focused in the interim. That way, potential employers will see that you made the most out of your downtime, got some type of nursing-related experience, and are committed to serving the public, no matter what the economic situation may hold! :chuckle
