I feel like I have been in school FOREVER! I started school in 2000....by 2002 I had 2 deaths in my immediate family. I tried to continue with my school after that...but it didnt work out too well. I took a year and a half off before going back to school. I worked hard to finish my pre-reqs sometimes having to take just 1 class per semester... I admit the first time I applied, I may not have been ready for the program. But this year I thought I was...I have all of my pre-reqs completed my GPA is a 3.0 ( my school requires at least a 2.5 to be accepted ) and once again I recieved a letter of rejection. I applied twice at my school and once at another...and Im still waiting to get in. Im 38 yrs. old. and Im afraid that by the time I get into the program soon after I will be old enough to retire. Im trying not to let the dissappointment of not getting in the program discourage me from my goal. I am applying again to two different schools for the 2007 program. If I get rejected again...should I call it quits and try something else? What else can I do to improve my chances of getting accepted? I thought of looking into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that my school also offers. I dont want to be too quick to give up my dream. Am I wrong for feeling this way? Or should I just hang in there until I make it?

I know it says that you need a 2.5 but thats just the minimum you can have to apply. 3.0 is an OK GPA, but you gotta know that there are students applying with 4.0 and the cut off could be as low as 3.7-3.8. I have heard of a little lower sometimes around 3.4 but not often. The best thing for you to do is bring your GPA up cause like i said 2.5 means that you can apply but when there are 100 people applying and more than have have a GPA over 3.8, then you know that the people with GPA of 2.5 are not getting in. Do you see what i mean.
Also, Find a school that goes by Entrance tests to, I have found that alot that go by entrance tests or both GPA and entrance testing, give you a better shot at getting in. Or you could go the LPN route alot of people do that and then bridge later to become and RN when they are ready while working as a nurse making money and getting experience. Good luck and i hope it all works out for you

Andy gave you some good advice. Are there pre-reqs that you can retake to earn a higher grade or other pre-reqs/courses that you can take now that will boost that 3.0 a bit? Other things you might want to look into:
*Volunteering or getting certified as a CNA to show experience
*Having someone look over your admissions essay(s) to see if there are things that you can clarify/improve/be more persuasive on
*Speaking with the admissions office to find out if they have any suggestions for improving your odds (do this on the "off-season" before application time)
You may also want to consider other fields, whether that's as an LPN/LVN, diagnostic medical sonography, surgical tech, etc. Good luck and keep your chin up!

don't give up on your dream! i applied to my local college twice with a GPA 3.85...still got rejected. reason was 40 seats for 1000 applicants...and almost 300 had 4.0 GPA.
I applied to private nursing school(offers associate degree also)...finally managed to get in one school. I'm starting end of august. it feels so good (atleast once a week i look at the acceptance letter).
one of my friend gave up on nursing school and went for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program..she loves it and i hear the pay is excellent!
so whatever you decide Good Luck!

You are being too quick to give up your dream!
Im 35, I took classes in 97 and 98, then stopped, and went back in 03 and had them put me on "the list". At University of Maine at Augusta, as long as your GPA is over 2.5 and you're on the list, it's only a matter of time. It took me 2 years but Im finally starting clinicals this fall. Ive finished all my prerequisites for a BS :) I was told this summer by some guy in the tutoring lab that UMaine at Fort Kent (Canadian boarder) had no waiting list.. figures I find out now
Maybe you can find a college near you that will let you do the same?
