Frustrated New Grad

Published

Hello, I am a newly licensed RN who just moved to the Tampa area. My husband's job was transferred from Illinois to the Tampa area, and my family lives here. I do have my RN license for Florida. I am having a really hard time finding a job. I have a Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice, an Associate's in Nursing, and 2 years CNA experience at a Top-100 Magnet Hospital. I have applied to several residency programs (Florida Hospital-Tampa, Florida Hospital- Orlando, Bayfront in St. Pete, St. Joe's) and hundreds of open RN positions. I have heard Lakeland hires new grads, but I haven't heard anything from them after submitting an application. I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the job search. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions of places that might hire a newly licensed RN?? Thank you.

I've been rejected for all the ones I applied for, probably because they require a BSN :( I've been stressing too, its so frustrating. What's worse is that everyone I talk to about how difficult it is to get a job as a new RN says "But you're a nurse!! You should have jobs coming at you left and right!!!" ugghhhh

I moved to the central FL area in March, got my FL license in April & it took 2 months for me to get a job. I'm also a new grad, but I do have my BSN. How long have you been looking?

Also, when I moved down here, several nurses told me to go ahead & get my ACLS certification. Idk if that helped me land a job or not, but during my interview, the nurse managers seemed impressed that I already went ahead & got it.

Specializes in Gerontology RN-BC and FNP MSN student.

You might want to look into agency, home health, Odyssey hospice as well.

It is also good to get accepted into a bsn program and post your acceptance letter with your application ,I am having trouble finding a job too but my friend got an er job and she put that she was enrolled in a program she got hired after two months.

Yeah, I have been accepted into an online BSN program and have been putting that on my applications, hasn't helped so far but I'm hoping it shows initiative, thank you for the advice though, its definitely a good idea!

Have you taken the acls and pals certification most of the jobs list them as a requirement

Just wanted to update everyone to let you know there is hope, I was hired at a LTC facility and am in the process of interviewing for a residency program. Its frustrating, but I guess with patience and perseverance its possible to get an RN position straight out of school with an ADN.
