Frustrated and gave up on ISU

Published

Hi All,

Thought I'd share my experience with the application process to ISU. I was super excited about this program because as an LPN with 20+ years experience I am so ready to get on with my BSN. I read through everything and followed the application directions. I waited, and waited, and waited and did not get a reply in terms of having my transcripts evaluated. Eventually I called and was told they never received them. SO....I reordered my high school and Community College transcripts and re-sent. Again...waited and waited and waited. I called again. I was told then that I needed another set of transcripts from an obscure college I went to for one semester. I told the person on the phone that I didn't take anything that semester that would count toward my credits and I was told I had to order it anyway. It cost me $19 to order those transcripts, which I did, and sent them off. MORE waiting. Finally got a letter saying that said basically they wanted me to re-take my pre-requisites (WHY??) through Ivy Tech Community College (conveniently a partner school with them). I threw the paper in the trash and said the heck with it. I'm not re-taking all the A&P's and Micro and all that. So now I am being bombarded with mail pieces, emails and phone calls from Ivy Tech. I NEVER solicited that school, never asked to be contacted by them. I opted out of emails twice and they still continued to send them. They even sent a Happy Birthday email on a day that was not even close to my birthday. Finally I called and told them to stop harassing me. That college is not even in my state. So, I say if you go to apply, proceed with caution.

Heh, heh. Your story sounds almost exactly like my experience with WGU.

What is ISU?

Indiana State University LPN-BSN program

I often think that community colleges and 4-year colleges are colluding to force potential students to take so many classes over and over again just for the money. Question: "Why didn't my biology credits transfer?" Answer: "Those credits are 212 and 216. We only accept 211 and 215."

Or, how many pre-requisites to the pre-requisite can there be? A lot evidently.

They give their 'reasons' for the forced retakes. I know. I've repeated the courses more than once. And for all the money I spent on registration, books, and transportation, as well as lost wages, to take these courses again and again, I can not provide any appreciable evidence that anything new and improved was presented to me. The real 'reason'? We all know, education is big money. Make the students repeat those courses, and you will make more money, without providing anything of real value to the perpetual student.

I think you'll be hard-pressed to find any BSN program that doesn't require science pre-reqs to be 5 years old or newer.

Wow, that's crazy. But why did you have to sumbit high school transcripts if you have college courses?
