Frustrated beyond belief!

Nurses General Nursing

I have applied 3 different times with a hospital run Hospice. I have volunteered for 6 months, finally decided I was ready to go for it, so I applied for a full time RN position, and a PRN LPN position. Then went and introduced myself to human resources, and handed a resume and cover letter to them. Then in a week I went and introduced myself to the manager of Hospice and she seemed very interested in hiring me, and then got a PRN position approved (which is what I wanted PRN). I mailed the manager my resume and cover letter, called a few days later and she confirmed that she did get my resume and cover letter.

More days go by (I know they are real busy trying to fill the fulltime RN position so its taking several weeks) I phoned her a couple of days ago and she was in a meeting, so she called me back stating that she didn't have my application anywhere. I applied online 3 different times!!!! And I got an email saying they got my application.

So why does human resources not forward my application to her??? I've never had anything bad anywhere, never called in sick a day in my life! Never even been reprimanded before.

What is going on? Do they not like me because I haven't been in the hospital working for 20 months? Its not even been 2 years for Pete's sake! Are they holding this against me? I have been working as a telephone triage nurse for 20 months.

I'm so fed up with Human Resources! A month ago, the HR lady even told me she had forwarded my resume to the manager. So she lied? I drove 50 miles yesterday to apply in person so they'd FOR SURE have my application, but the receptionist said they have my application, as I was standing there she was looking it up in the computer.

Maybe God doesn't want me to be a Hospice nurse. After volunteering, and after working in med surg 10 years, and then in ICU 10 years, and my mom being a Hospice patient I was certain that this is my calling. Ughhh. You work so hard all your life and get no where!

vtach1: You are doing everything you should be doing and also following up as you should. At the end of the day you will end up in a good position. Please, for your health and your sanity don't worry to much about things. I understand you need employment but it will happen as long as your striving to make the right steps. Your post seems as your going well beyond the norm, so your doing great. Hope is the only thing you should have. You can't allow other people incompetence to diminish your hope. Otherwise, no one would ever be hopeful. Some people don't like other people for no reason at all. Others don't like others because of jealousy. There are a million reason why sometimes people don't get hired. Don't worry about it, do you. At the end of the day you keep being an honorable person and things will work out for the best. Let us know, what happens with your situation. So, please update the thread, thanks.

you deserve the job. however, a good friend of mine with over 30 years of nursing work experience told me the other day that she has a hard time finding full-time employment because employers do not want to pay the top of the pay scale. this is not her fault!! she earned the top of the pay scale and so have you!!!

on the other hand, in this economy nurses as experienced as you are a deterrent to some employers. in fact, i know of nurses who recently landed jobs in higher level ers because they have a little more then 1-2 years of nursing work experience!!! with 1-2 years of experience they had no trouble landing interviews or jobs!

are you willing to take a pay cut for your dream job?? maybe that should be known to the hiring manger some how in an off-handed way... (not an interview, but possibly through your volunteer work)? what about moving to an area that will drool over someone like you? i am sure such places exist. rural areas maybe?

just some thoughts ... again, you deserve the job so good luck!

OP, it could very well be that the office is disorganized. Can you print out your copy of the online app and mail it to the NM?

Just remember not to judge hospice on this episode.

And come out to California - our hospice team needs you!
