Hi, I'm new posting to this site. I'm an RRT with 19 years experience at 4 different hospitals, mostly critical care, PACU and some middle management. I have an AAS degree in respiratory therapy. It's time for a change. I would like to advance my career into nursing and, specifically, in nurse anesthesia. I would appreciate any guidance about schools, programs, pathways. Anyone who has gone this route? What are my acedemic options? I live in Alaska, but am willing to move. In fact, I'm willing to go as far as it takes to achieve my goal. I just don't want to waste any steps or miss any opportunities to streamline the educational pathway I must take. If anyone can help, I thank you in advance. rt2crna

You will need the RN first, as well as a year or two of ICU experience as an RN. You can do that in a BSN program, since that will be required for you to have, since you need a Bachelor's degree for admission.
Hope that this will help. If you already had a Bachelor's degree, even if in RT, then you could possilbly go for one of the few direct entry programs, but those are few and very hard to get accepted into.

Greetings, I just found this site. I'm not sure if you're still on here. But I have some info that I know will help you. I'm an RRT with 13 years experience. I'm working on my ADN.

1. Get your BSN
2. Work in an ICU for at least two years
3. Get your masters or doctorate in nurse anesthesia
Good luck!
