From Australia to NZ fo GNP!

Hey everyone, I feel a little bit down today coz I just turned down a great oppty for a NGP in Victoria. It was not easy to decline the offer for the place. My husband has made a commitment for a post grad over in NZ and there is no way we can afford to rent 2 properties while we are away from each other.

I was just thinking if anyone out there could share me 'how do i qualify for a new grad programme in NZ'. I understand the the GP will be starting very soon for 2009, and there is no way I could participate for it. Do hospitals have a midterm intake for 2009?

Another Q: How long will it take to apply for visa from OZ to NZ? Anyone with experience?

I am listening xx

If you are an Australian citizen you can walk into NZ with no visa requirements, thats what happens tother away around. Just make sure you have your papers with you to register with their nursing board through mutual cross tasman recognition.

I work with a kiwi that finished uni, had the transcripts left for oz the next day, pushed for rego within a week working here in oz, absolutely amazed at the money she is receiving.

Thanks ceridwyn

I am in NSW and I like it here or interstate. I could imagine why they like it here in OZ. Maybe u could ask ur friend some interesting NZ nursing 'must know stuff' for me...like, some Maori terms that i need to learn and understand, how are terms pronounced!:redpinkhe

My husband has has made a commitment to do a post grad - research in NZ and we determined to try whats it like in NZ. Had made few job applications, so, we'll wait and see.

cheers everyone who would be interested to share their experience. xx

Good luck Sunny. Your first step is to contact the nursing council. Then worry about a job. It shouldn't be difficult. Luckily, Australian permanent residents can also work here on their Australian PR w/o a problem. Too bad it doesn't work the other way...

Many thanks chigap for ur response

I have already post my 'Mutual agreement' application 3 days ago and hope to hear from them very soon. According to the NZNC website, it takes 4 weeks or less which is good. I have also applied online for nursing jobs in the North. Yes OZ is good more oppties of course.

Could I ask, are u a foreign nurse? Ye u've got to apply for another visa if u want to work here. Well, just love what u are doing coz, the grass is not always greener on the other side. If you think u are happy where u are now then keep it..my suggestion.

Contrary to others thoughts.... I am not worried on how much I can make as a 1st year grad coz that is not the main key thing for me. If I found one that pays more it is a bonus...hey I wanted to be a nurse coz I :heartbeatpeople. I just imagine those nurses who volunteer to help people and dont just think of money. Dont get me wrong tho by saying this...money can do heaps of things of course.

Anyways...What do u think of Wellington Hospital? I am keen on renal nursing or coronary care for my nursing career? Any advice from you and expert nurses out there?

Cheers

Oh Sunny, I had worked up north for several years and went home to the US for a couple of months. Came back to take a job in the CCU at Welly Hospital. It is a mess. It is no secret, just read the news. I quit the job after a few months and so did my manager who had been there for years. The whole place is a nightmare. There are plenty of jobs in any area, but there is a reason for that... Google CCDHB and Wellington Hospital and read the news.

I am glad that you are so optimistic. Take care of yourself first and foremost!

Best...

Hi chigap thanks for the reply

I have been to few websites and read about CCDHB and yeh..its unbelievable how staff could do so such mistakes over a year. I could understand how their nurses feel about not getting involved in legal case or have their rego revoked. Real scary. I wouldn't want to be in that situation and find somewhere else.

As I said before I want to stay here in OZland but need to be with my hubby. Thanks, ye I'll look after myself and may the good Lord watch over me :-) I could come back to OZ again..who knows.

Keep these threads going fellas, my day is not complete without reading threads... i reserve 1 hour for Allnurses.com a day and glad to hear from everyone. Cheers!

According to the Kiwi nurses on my ward you'll be fine without being able to speak any Maori

Yes I am sure kiwis do not try to learn any Australian indigenious dialects before they come over here to AUSTRALIA, sorry but I hate being called oz all the time, aussie or Australia, HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY ALL AUSSIES!!!!!

Excuse me, just notice I did it myself in one of these posts, uch uch uch, bad girl, should hang my head in shame.
