Gouda Aphternuon!
Clerk from SC called me this AM and is going to send me an application for hubby's birth certificate. Then after I fill it out, I have to send them a copy of my driver's license (photo ID), the death certificate, and a check for $12, plus add'l $3 per extra copy. Now I have to call the place where we had our taxes last done, in 2017, hoping they can provide me with a copy of that. I dread that they might tell me I have to get in touch with the IRS, because the IRS has a history of being difficult to reach and deal with on the phone.
Nothing crucial on the To-Do List except get some postage stamps.
Do you remember when I told you how we seemed to be losing spoons? NOW we seem to be losing face cloths. I dunno where they could've gone! I will just get a packet of inexpensive ones from a discount store; they don't have to be matchy-matchy with towels.
Got a catalog from......MONTGOMERY WARD?! I didn't think they were still in business! I flipped through it and imagined purchases I would like to get, and then tossed the catalog. Who has the $$ for 'nicities'? I imagined new pillows to replace the thousand-year-old-pillows ( or maybe 40 years old, which is bad enough.) in the two bedrooms which will eventually be cleared up and turned into guest rooms. Those pillows are heavy and flat (dead down and feathers) and need to be pitched out! I won't ditch Nannie's until she's gone; she has them in a certain arrangement she prefers, so I won't mess with them. But, ICK, I sure wouldn't want to sleep on them!
I was going to put together a crockpot for supper, but it is too late to start it now. So, I guess we will have omelets tonight, and I hope I can remember to start the crockpot tomorrow AM.
Opie-dopey, time to attempt a phone call to the accountant/tax prep place....
Well, Fudge-Ripple! (a new cuss-word, hopefully acceptable to TOS ?)
The IRS is a bust! I can't get a tax return copy from 2016 (or 2017) because all or some of my information is "incorrect"! But they won't say what info is incorrect! I tried everything I could think of, his name and SS#, my name and SS#, old address, new address, or the year isn't 'correct' or something (on-line only goes back to 2020). It's ALWAYS something. And the 'closest' IRS office is in the dreaded city of Charlotte....but their phone number only provides the location and hours of operation, and that I should make an appointment. ie: they don't suffer fools at all! I can't get a real live person to talk to about my dilemma. Ppfftt!
That's enough on my B-S meter for today! This hyar auphiss iz clozed!
Yes, it's me again! ?
I hate to wake Nannie up......she is "air sewing" with an invisible needle and thread!
I was about to start the omelet. I have everything chopped and ready, but I'm going to hold off for another 1/2 hour. What have I chopped? Small amounts of green onions (the white parts), a few Greek kalamati olives, and some extra-sharp white cheddar cheese, and maybe I'll dice two of those l'ill Smokies sausages. It'll be a 3 egg omelet so we can split it, and I will toast some seeded rye bread. I'm hungry now, but will wait.....
Momo is growling oh-so-softly at the FAT groundhog snuffling around on the patio.
Can y'all tell I have nobody here to talk to, or with?
Tweety, I hope things work out with your sister and parents. Hard to be so dependent on her but not certain how much to trust her.
Stars, your omelet sounds good.
Hubs picked me up from the airport and we ate at Chuys (chain Mex food) in honor of my bday, which was yesterday. It is good to be home.
Being in a place like Las Vegas brings my neuroses to the forefront. So much excess and waste. I'm perfectly capable of enjoying a little luxury but it all seems so over-the-top. And this risk retention group sure spends a lot of money. Ugh. At least we don't have an in-person meeting again until April. I thought it was March but it is April.
I did take my documents (birth certificate, marriage license, drivers license) so we could stop and present them for the TSA pre-check. Next time I fly I should be able to use it.
Hi. I enjoy Vegas, but just for a few days at a time. Yes, the excess is a little overwhelming. I used to tag along when dh went for trade shows. Before that, my oldest son was a technician on race cars, and we would travel to watch his team compete. Las Vegas. I think I enjoy visiting with the hotel staff as much as anything. They often had good tips on the best show and best places to eat. Las Vegas really has changed. Because our anniversary is in August when the trade shows were, we would go to one very nice restaurant as a gift to ourselves.
The weather was nice today. We met with dh's siblings to have lunch with MiL. I ate way too much, and am going to skip dinner. I am going to watch Father Brown here in a few minutes and then turn in.
Joe, it sounds like your work flow is evening out a bit.
Hi Tweety. I'm someone is able to check on your parents. I have every intention of moving into some sort of assisted living when the need arises. I don't want to be a burden on my kids, even though they all live in the area.
Stars, your omelet does sound good, except I would be afraid the sausages might give me heartburn. I like to scramble eggs with spinach and broccoli, and add the cheese to the top. Sometimes I add O'Brian hash browns or onions. I like to top it all with salsa.
I had to call the IRS a couple of years ago. I called the 1-800 number. I would dial, and put the phone on speaker while I waited for someone to pick up. A couple of times I was on hold, and then the call was dropped. The third time I got through and talked to a very pleasant woman who was able to help me right then and there. It must have been a fluke!
Ado Annie said:Someone was reading us a news story about a woman in Australia being sentenced to prison after 3 of 4 guests at her dinner party died from mushroom poisoning. I meant to look up the story to try to understand why they thought it was intentional (or criminally negligent).
A lunch host is accused of killing her ex-husband's parents and aunt with poisonous mushrooms

Stars that's good that the marriage license is on its way and that you're not responsible for the debt
NJ22 I'm surprise a movie could provoke so much disagreement
Dianah did not know they made microwaves that can do air frying
Tweety that does seem like really questionable behavior
Finally had a good day at work, didn't have to cut lunch short or leave late, though I didn't have time to help anyone. Hoping for the same today
After work went out to dinner with the book club. Were expecting 8 but only 5 showed. In 2 weeks we have our regular meeting
Nothing special really going on tonight, hoping thing will be fairly quiet
Weather is now back up into the upper 50s which is nice, and rain is holding off
