Tweety hope today wasn't too crazy

NJ22 does sound like a confusing situation

Ado those seem like good ideas

Stars glad his mood is better today but I wonder about the med change too

Work started fine but workload increased gradually. Left a half hour late so I wouldn't have stuff left over for today.  Otherwise a quiet day, exercised after work

Someone is off today, hoping that won't mean it gets too busy again.  Might meet J for dinner tonight, depends upon how bad his allergies are today.

Will  be in the 70s again today, might get some  rain

Good morning!

Joe, hope you have a good day.

Off today.  Not much going on.

Good morning!

We are getting ready to go get the RV out of storage, w00t!  I slept pretty well (took 1/4 dose sleep aid), but had weird dreams.  I'd halfway wake up and tell myself, Oh, this is a dream, it's not real, you don't have to solve it.  And roll over and go to sleep.

No Stars, sorry Nannie and your dh are being PILLS.  The story about cutting the med in half makes me raise one eyebrow, too.   What book are you reading now?  Do you like mysteries?  I found a few mystery books (books about mysteries) in my recent shredding adventure.  If you want me to send them to you, PM me your address. ?

Ado, working in a specialty area as I did (Cardiac Cath lab, plus we sedated for TEEs), we were always scrutinized for correct Time Out procedures and patient safety.

Well, time to go.  Have a good day!

Good morning,

Good news Dianah, that must mean you dh is feeling well enough to travel. Are you all experiencing the heat wave?

We did get quite a bit of rain last night, but its sunny now. Yet I am stuck inside in my office. We just got word that someone was taking videos and asking odd questions about exits at our other building, so we are encouraged to only leave with another person. So I guess I ought to stay in instead of going on my walk.

I got an unexpected call last night from the hospital ED--my sister was there and would I call her. Of course I did, and then went to check on her. She was at the cardiology office yesterday for a pacer interrogation and apparently they saw something wrong and sent her to ED. She's not a medical person, so all she could tell me was they said she had an "event". She was quite edematous, and apparently hypertensive, but was diuresing and feeling better when I got there. She was going to stay at least over night and get an echo.

Stars, I feel so bad for you, but I have to agree with the others in that your hubby's version doesn't quite pass the smell test. Hopefully, today is better for all three of you.

My day is staying busy, but hopefully there are not unexpected issues.

Hey there, yez guyze~

Tweety, I agree that hubby can certainly be trying to squeak by with the drinking thing. I do know that one of his docs, when he was at the hospital, prescribed a whole pill. Then hubby waited until he went to his PCP last week before he supposedly was going to start taking the med. Then when he came home from that appt is when he told me the PCP said he wanted to start him on 1/2 the pill. He is to go to his PCP once a month to have an xray and make sure the pleural fluid is not building up. And I suppose they will also talk about the booze thing. He c/o his stomach starting to feel 'tight' again this morning, with gas building up. (I don't know if he drank too much last night, but at least  his attitude wasn't weird.) The pharmacist recommended taking Pepto Bismol just before he went to sleep. Ooooh-kay, then! Hubby says that Gas-X doesn't help, and he was taking charcoal caps for a while but hasn't mentioned doing so lately. I still think he needs to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy, but according to him, the doc (PCP) said "we can't do everything at one time." You know it was so disappointing to me when he started acting like he does after he's had a couple of those little bottles of booze. OY! I give it all to God.

This morning I treated myself to a nice facial and conditioned my hair, and showered. It felt so good!

So, hubby has gone out to get some Pepto (and who knows what else...). He has to get some cash in order to pay the guy for mowing our lawn early last  evening. Nannie couldn't figure out why the guy mowed while it was getting dark, but I'd say it was to avoid the heat of the sun. Doesn't matter, the lawn is mowed, and that makes Nannie happy. And the lawn-mowing guy will get paid today, which will make him happy.

Nannie is sound asleep, with her neck bent so her ear resting on her shoulder. But she has never c/o a sore neck, and she's been doing this for a long time, so I guess it's okay.

j22, That is downright CREEPY about the guy taking videos and asking questions about the exits. CREEPY! And gosh I hope your sister gets better ASAP. I would be scared, too, about the s/s she exhibited. Glad they kept her overnight, just to be safe.

I might as well be "non-medical" with all the things I have forgotten over the last 10 years. Once I started doing private duty at a retirement facility, it was the nurses there who took care of everything like meds and assessments, so other than seeing a red flag, or if my antennae vibrated about something, which caused me to report it, I wasn't responsible for much except keeping the patient busy, happy, fed, washed, and contented. And if it was a PDN case in a private home, there were usually relatives or a case manager who took care of medical stuff for the patient.

Joe, Hope work was not too busy today. Also that J's allergies behave and you get to meet up later on for a meal together.

dianah, Sometimes my half-awake dreams scratch at my brain with the questions, "Am I supposed to be working today? What shift? Uh-oh, am I going to be late?" Then I remember that I am retired, so I can sink back deeper into sleep without actually having to jump out of bed for work. I did that once, when my sister and I were working in Boston, but living in Essex. One of our parents would shuttle us to the B&M railway station to catch the train. Well, one night I had gone to sleep early and conked out; my sister came into my room to get something out of the closet....and that's when I jumped out of bed and started pulling the curlers out of my hair. She said, "WHAT are you doing?!!" I told her I was getting ready for work. She told me it was only midnight. UGH. Then I had to put the rollers back in my hair before I could go back to sleep. Bummer!

Hubby has gone out again to pick us up some supper. I put Nannie's pills and a drink next to her chair, and when he comes back in, I say, "Nannie, take your pills now." and put a pillow on her lap and a towel on her chest. I am going to start rearranging her so she is sitting up straighter (she eats in the recliner) because she stuffs her mouth while she is still chewing on the last mouthful.  Every so often, she gets chokey. We say, "Smaller bites! Slow down! Chew it up and swallow it before you take another bite!" Of course her answer is always "I DO!" (Yuh, well, you DON'T!)

Off into the wild blue yonder....or at least up to the kitchen.

Later!

Ah, Stars, at least you have a good attitude in giving it to God.

94 degrees but not bad in the shade where I sit waiting so the dog can have some outdoor time. Another night, another storm, another loss of power but at least the generator worked this morning. I was doing a conference call all morning so stayed home where I wasn't reliant on a generator. Then went in to the office.

When my in-laws had their place in Florida I witnessed 2 different attitudes about the mowing thing. My in-laws had a tree in their back yard and consequently almost no grass. Yet when the guy doing the mowing skipped their back yard, my MIL complained. Another couple we knew lived in the same retirement community. When the mowing guy went over their yard, the lady complained because she didn't think it needed mowing yet. People are hard to please. Especially the ones who like being angry, which I think describes Gma back then and now.

In the risk mgmt conference one person said they had a death at their facility when a patient got an air embolism when a central line was removed. "The nurse didn't follow procedure". I'd like to know exactly *how* the nurse didn't follow procedure. Not have the patient bear down? Not use an occlusive dressing? Have them sitting up? inquiring minds want to know.

Gma's doctor didn't think she needed antibiotics. He was pleased with her A1C (5.6; she takes metformin). Twin A saw his PA and got abx and steroids

nursej22, it is 4:41pm now and 98 degrees, 25% humidity (which is high for here).  Yesterday a friend posted it was 108 degrees in a nearby town!  We have stayed indoors, for the most part, lately.  We did get the RV out, and got it gassed up, and filled the propane, and when we got home with it, dh filled up the water tank.  It needs a bath but dunno if we will get to that before taking it up to the campground on Sunday.

I took some cash out to pay the neighbor who will be doing cat care for us while we're gone.  I also got more walnut pieces, for the chipmunks and ground squirrels.  They know we are coming, and always look forward to this treat.  ? ?

No Stars, that story is hilarious: you leaping out of bed in the middle of the night, and removing your curlers, thinking it was time to go to work!  I hope you were able to fall asleep after that.  Yes, I know it was years ago but still...

Dh is doing the online jam!  He hasn't for a few days, as he hasn't felt well.  I'm glad he felt well enough to get the RV out, and to do the online jam.  We will have leftovers later.  Tomorrow I will do the grocery shopping for our trip, and load the RV fridge.  We will pack tomorrow night.  Dh will pack the instruments on Sunday morning.  Once we get up there, he can continue to convalesce, as our daily plans call for playing instruments 1-2 hours per day, and taking at least one walk through the campground.  I will usually feed the rodents, and read.  And just enjoy being up there. ?

Have a good evening!

One morning this week, AFTER the alarm went off and I hit the snooze I was dreaming and realized I was dreaming then clearly heard Hubs yell my name from the other room as if he was angry with me. I sat up and shouted "WHAT?" only to find him next to me in the bed wondering why I was shouting. ?

Dianah, oh that sounds like such a nice 'time-out' at the campground! I'd love to be able to do something like that.(But I haven't played a guitar for, um, forty-two years (!) and I wasn't all that good at it. It was good enough for me to sing with...always when I was alone! ) Good your dh is up to going on the trip. When I was young and we went on vacation, we always put Cheerios out on the stone wall for the chipmunks.

Ado, hope Twin A starts feeling better soon! / I bet it would be interesting to see Nannie and Gma talking together. ? But, definitely more like a fly-on-the-wall, than being there in the same room with them! YIKES!

Ado, I worked on a floor where a patient sadly died of an air embolism. She was suffering from some sort of cancer of her neck and had an awful wound plus a trach. She wanted comfort care, but family didn’t. She getting TPN through a central line, and one evening she pulled the line apart and got herself into the bathroom. I went to check on her pump alarm and found her cold and dead on a commode. The TPN had continued to pump and the whole floor was a sticky mess. They actually tried to code her until the family was reached. It was one of the saddest things I’ve seen.

Dianah, so glad your husband is doing well.

Lots of sickness going around and people seem to be getting the "antibiotics and steroids" combo.  A friend of mine is on antibiotics for what he says is the flu.  I wasn't going to say anything, but I thought docs were trying to get off the antibiotic bandwagon.  But when you're sick for a week and not getting better and with no relief, I suppose it can't hurt.

We had a suicide at our flagship hospital in Orlando.  Not sure how it happened but the state cleared the hospital.  When someone wants to kill themselves they will do it.  Sad.

There's also a TikTok going around about 40 nurses walking off the job because they had 8:1 at our flagship hospital in Orlando.  A coworker believed this and I said "I saw a TikTok and...".  I snapped. "You believe everything you see on TikTok???", but let's stop and think about this.  Do you know of any unit that has 40 employees on duty at once?  Do you know any nurse that would walk off the job and abandon their patients, much less 40 of them at once? "

The TikTok has been debunked, but as with fake news the damage is done.  It would be nice if the organization sued the TikTok nurse that made up this story.  The hospital, while I'm sure has their problems, has been named one of the top 25 best places to work in healthcare by Fortune.
