NJ22 sounds like a nice concert

Ado I always found the Hallelujah Chorus a hard one to sing

Tweety I hope the surgery goes smoothly

Dianah I think our local Catholic church is having a similar prayer service this weekend

Stars that's nice that you won't have to take her there today

Work turned out busier than I had expected yesterday, but not too bad, and nothing unexpected.  After work went to my friend M's house for dinner and then to see 2 other members of the gay group give a musical performance.  Was nice, and they even ended with some Christmas carols. Haven't seen M all year, he and his family have had health issues much of the year

Have a coworker out today, thankfully neither she nor I have much scheduled today, so unless things really go wrong it shouldn't be too busy a day.  Nothing planned after work except for exercise

Will be a colder day today, low 20s, although I think it will be warmer most of the rest of the week

There was a severe thunderstorm warning here that was supposed to last until 6 AM today. Yes, it rained like crazy yesterday afternoon and early evening, but we didn't have any thunder or lightning or even 'high winds'. If anything happened overnight while I slept, I don't know about it. Now the skies are blue, the sun is shining and it will be in the low 50's, I think. Anyway, it's Friday and I don't say "TGIF" because that means another empty weekend is yawning in front of us. It would be a case of TGIM (Monday) for me since Nannie is dressed and 'taken away' to daycare by SiL. Unless something changes, of course, which is not impossible, but let us pray nothing calls it off. But the bad news is that there will be no daycare on Wednesday or Friday this coming week due to Christmas. I'm not sure about the New Year's week, as we have not been issued an updated calendar yet, but I betcha it will be the same, with daycare open only on Monday again. {May the year 2026 be a MUCH, MUCH better year!}

When I go out to pick up Nannie this afternoon, I will have to stop at the store first to restock the usual dog food and yogurts. "Supply Sargent" is a never-ending job.

Do I have anything nice or interesting to post? No, nope, uh-uh. Sorry!

Of mild interest is my horror-scope for today; it basically says, "You may be dealing with someone today who will not shut up." Sounds like a run of verbal porridge will happen here between supper and bedtime!  Though it doesn't reference the movie's implications of this sentence, it still applies:

"Brace yourself, Effie!" (Mrs Doubtfire)

Hope Tweety's surgery went well and he's recuperating at home.

Joe, it is definitely a challenge to sing the Hallelujah Chorus. Everything goes along nicely until there's a surprise change in the rhythm, awkward entrance, etc. The director doesn't seem to think we need to work on it much. The orchestra is pretty loud and I don't think anyone will really hear us, anyway.

Stepson should arrive Monday (probably late Monday).

I am interested in that movie with Don Ameche and Gene Tierney. May have to look it up on IMDB and see if we can watch it somewhere. We plan to watch the latest Knives Out movie when we're all home. Twin B got a request to work either Christmas Eve or Christmas so the person scheduled for that night can be home with her young kids. I understand, but also kind of want *my* little family to have some uncomplicated time together. Not sure what he plans to do.

I love toffee and that toffee with almonds and chocolate sounds delicious.

Good afternoon.

The surgery went really well without a hitch.  I'm having pain from the C02 gas which he told me to expect but it's worst than I though.  Sheesh.  But I'm a good patient.  Doing walking and waiting it out.  Doesn't help that Google AI said it can hurt for 1 to 3 days, peaking at 24 hours.  Plus I had a foley intra op and voiding is painful.  Whine......

Bestie is here to keep an eye on.  Doc told him to make sure I can urinate okay.  No problem there.  He will spend the night which I'm thankful for.

Otherwise I'll be home for five days and hopefully can return to work Thursday, Christmas Day.

I read your posts and goings on.  Hard to believe Christmas stuff is going on around me.  But I never make a big deal out of Christmas.

Though difficult at times, The Hallelujah Chorus is exciting to sing!  Last year we worked up a short arrangement of it with fiddle, guitar, banjo, and bass.  It was fun!  We joked that it is a "bluegrass song," as it turns out to only require three chords the whole way through, LOL

Tweety, glad the surgery went so smoothly, and yes, the CO2 cramps are the worst!  Hope they dissipate soon.

Dh gave a telescope to oldest ds, who has recently shown interest in astronomy.  The 5", 1250 focal length telescope has been sitting in our house, unused, for probably 25 years.  A few days ago, dh took it over and helped ds set it up.  Last night was the first night ds was off work and able to get it calibrated -- and he texted he was just blown away to see Jupiter AND four of its moons!  We are excited for him, and glad the telescope is being used.  It is heavy to lug in and out of the house -- best for a younger back to do that!

Have a good evening!

Quiet day. Got out for 2 dog walks, one with dh. He is supposed to be walking 30 minutes every day. He was told this a month ago, and today is the first walk. So I hope it continues!

Youngest ds drove a school bus to Seattle and back last night. He got home at 1 am, then back to work at 7. I saw him briefly, when he got home tonight, on his way to bed. He liked the play "Come From Away" is about all he said. dd told me it was on Apple TV, so I watched it and it is pretty good, if anyone here as Apple TV.

I talked to oldest sis to invite her to Christmas dinner. She asked me some medical stuff like wound care. She is going to help me look at cruises to Alaska, as she was a travel agent for many years and has been there many times.

Tweety, hopefully the pains abate quickly. Thats good that your bestie is there to help, so you can heal.

The Hallelujah Chorus is beautiful, and seems daunting for a small choral group. I am sure the church will enjoy the music.

That sounds like a nice toffee recipe. I used to make peanut brittle, but it was a little tedious. And I would eat way too much of it.

Yes, eating too much of the toffee is an issue!

It was actually quite easy: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup butter, pinch salt, 1/2 tsp vanilla.  Cook for 5-5.5 min over medium heat, stirring constantly so it doesn't burn.  My recipe said "till it gets the color of a paper bag " 😉

I had toasted the raw almonds for about 10 min at 350, then dumped them on a cookie sheet spread first with parchment paper.  I spread the nuts out, then as soon as the toffee was done cooking I poured it over the nuts.  Then sprinkled semisweet chocolate chips over, and after a minute or two they were soft enough (from the heat of the toffee) to spread over the toffee.  I put it in the fridge to harden.  Once it is hard can either chop it into pieces with a hefty knife or just break pieces off.

Dh will only walk w/me, and if it's an OK temp out -- not too cold, not too hot.  We usually do a mile -- better than nothing!  You reminded me, we haven't walked in a couple weeks, better get to it!

I hope you can find a cruise you will like.
