Fresno State Nursing (BSN) Fall 2018

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone!

I didn't see any forums for Fresno State Fall 2018 and so I decided to create one myself.

I applied for Fresno State's program as a transfer for the upcoming fall semester.

Here are my stats:

Prereqs: All A's except one B (chem)

TEAS: 82%

Volunteer hours and some scribing hours

Anyone else applied and know when they will be getting back to us? Has anyone heard about last year's admissions? Thanks in advance!

No, I did not. I didn't know I have to. I thought the school would get my transcript via nursingcas.

You have to order your transcripts from the colleges you attended and send them to Fresno state.

Does anyone know the total cost of the nursing program? According to the curriculum on the website, there are three years to complete this program, so I would imagine this raises the cost.

They condensed the program to 2.5 years. If I remember correctly, the information that they shared was:

810 clinical hours

$3,500-$4,500 per semester

You can also email them the find out more information.

so the total cost would be $11,250? or does clinical hours add extra to the cost?

@Ultralightbeam there are a total of 810 clinical hours. They said each semester costs between 3500-4500 a semester. Im not sure if that included books and supplies needed. I got the information on preview day.

Just a question to everyone, how did you guys upload your unofficial transcript on the NURSINGCAS application?

Hello, I just applied for Fall 2018 at Fresno. They did not ask or let you tell them about your volunteer experience. I listed those labs with 0 and CR. Does anyone know if you have to send in your AP credits to them if you already got them awarded on Nursing CAS?

Thanks!

I called in about my AP stats scores recently and it's kind of a weird process to get them on your Nursing CAS app. Basically you go into the "schools attended" part and add another school and name it "AP Statistics" or whatever your course is. That let's you add another transcript where you can put "AP Stats" or whatever for the course Code and everything else. Credits are 0 and grade is CR. Hope this helped!

Hi Klow7,

I am currently a 1st semester student in the Fresno State nursing program. I was accepted with all A's and 1 B (also in chem), and an 84% on the TEAS. I also did my prereqs at Clovis Community. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll be happy to help :)

Good luck to everyone!

In which cities do the clinicals take place for this nursing program? Like are they far away from campus or is the drive not bad? What has been the first semester like so far in terms of classes, time management, professors, etc.? Thanks for the help!

For first semester we had a choice of 3 different clinical sites, the VA Hospital, San Joaquin Gardens or the Armenian Home. No matter which location you end up, you will be working with the geriatric community first. But each site isn't further than 10 miles from campus.

Honestly, I can't believe how fast the semester has gone by! My schedule this semester is class from 10am-5pm on Monday, 3pm-6pm on Tuesday, and my clinical is on Friday from 6am-2pm. The professors are absolutely amazing and so willing to work with you. The work load is intense, but that is to be expected-A LOT of reading. There will be quizzes/exams almost every week, if not every week. Pathophysiology is my hardest class this semester, it goes very fast and covers a lot of content, but the professor is amazing with her lectures. You will also be taking Basic Care/Fundamentals, and Elderly Care. As far as time management, I have not had a single break to do much until spring break, and I am not currently working. Most of my time is devoted to studying and trying to catch up, because there is no such thing as "getting ahead" lol. I hope this helps!

DAbuS2020, Thank you so much for your post, it is very helpful!

If you don't mind me asking, what is the cost for your first semester with books and materials (excluding housing, food etc.)? Fresno State gave a couple of different figures, so I'm trying to get a better idea of what to expect in terms of tuition. :)

Thanks again!

Tuition was quite expensive; however, you will not be required to spend as much every semester. First semester student have to buy books. There's about 10-12 books that have to be bought, and you will use them all. I went through Amazon and spent about $700 on textbooks. You also have to buy an ATI program, which was also $704, but it lasts throughout the entire program, and will guide you to passing the NCLEX. Besides texts and ATI, you will have to purchase uniform, stethoscope, and a manual bp cuff. All together I spent about $1800 extra to just the tuition cost, which is around $3300 a semester for Fresno State. There will be new textbooks each semester, but not 10-12, more like 2-3. So the expenses aren't as bad as first semester.
