Starting a thread for applicants in 2021 year.

I went to a Catholic high school and Catholic college so I don’t care as well. All the same piece of paper at the end of the day. Lovely debates in my world religion classes as well. Actually really enjoyed it.

Have you applied to the RN program at Fresno State? Don't give up. I know it may take some of us much much longer to get there but doing something in the meantime until the application comes back around. I know it's discouraging year after year.. but still. Good luck with whichever you try.
Yes I did in February this year, I didn’t get chosen. I have really bad stats (3.41 Fresno State prerequisite GPA and a 3.45 cumulative) due to my previous bachelors, going straight to state university out of high school and getting sick, so it’s really hard outside of paying a load of money or a lotto for me to get into a nursing program. I’m trying again in July when it’s open to only current students and 2nd bachelors students, it’s slightly less competitive but I still think my stats are too low, but worth trying for a miracle I guess.

I feel you, I’m just going to keep working my current job (which is definitely a “career” in itself) and keep trying. I’m lucky I am employed and at least still able to provide for myself during this pandemic. I just want to be able to get in a program before 30, I already have pre-existing medical conditions and kind of worry the older I get the more worn out and tired I’ll get. Trying to get more active, fit and eat better so I won’t feel too lame bodied for nursing.
other issue is I have really bad carpal tunnel in my right wrist and my job is on a computer 40 hours (plus sometimes, we have periods of mandatory over time) and it’s just gotten worse in the 10 months I’ve worked this job. Surgery may be an option but it’s a long recovery and would require a long time out of work. I don’t feel with how terrible my wrist is now this is a sustainable job for me to keep for a career.

That's good, yes, definitely try again in July. Good luck to you that you'll get in. I looked at Fresno state's website and it says to consider a 3.75 GPA as competitive when applying to their RN program. ? My GPA isn't good. I took Communication long long ago, in 2005 ish and got a C. That's why I'm not sure I'm gonna try Fresno state. But fcc is a real big gamble with time for me at this point. I'm reaching my mid 30's soon. I hope miracles do happen for those like us though.

If not I’d like to exchange contact information with the people in the Fall cohort. Laurasummers4582 at gmail is my fake email if you want to send me your info, I’ll reply with my real info!
I just emailed you ?

Yes I got in my first try as did several others in my cohort. You guys have to wait a month longer than we did to find out which sucks though.
Hey there,
I start in the Fall. can you provide any tips to prep us for semester one? Anything to refresh on from A&P? Any supplies that are nifty? Does the nursing department choose our schedule for every semester or the first semester?

1st semester was a big adjustment for a lot of people. Most, if not all classes for pre reqs just test on memorization. Nursing classes test on application of what you know (aka critical thinking). It may be hard online but make good friends in your cohort. Form a group for doing homework and studying together. It may take you a test or two but find a way to study the material that works for you, it may be different than how you've always done it. Make sure to pass the med math test or you will have to repeat the semester. Put yourself out there during your clinical experience (starts week 9). Looking back you realize how easy it was first semester LOL
I would just enjoy your time off this Summer relaxing, doing anything but school related things.
For clinicals purchase a foldable nursing clipboard. I started wearing compression socks this semester too which makes it not as bad on your legs/feet imo. You could get a badge reel with something you like on it. Honestly most people in my friend group/cohort did not read from the textbook so either rent them or do not buy them (wait a couple weeks into the semester to see if you actually need them) The nursing department does choose your schedule for you which sucks but I have heard they might switch to having the students enroll themselves.
If anyone has any more questions (about anything), PM me on here or I can even give you my FB or #. Im always willing to answer questions! good luck

I don’t mind that, I’m not religious but all my friends are, catholic, Mormon and Christian... I even looked into FPU but I would have to retake some stuff for them.
