Frequency of communication from college

Published

For those of you who have gotten in or who are waiting for "the letter" is it common to constantly get something from the school? I have applied to several CCs and don't get much from them except the update on my wait list "number" a couple tiems a year. Yet, I get something new from the state U every single week now. Bumper stickers, postcards telling me what a great school it is, reminders to get my immunizations, invitations to campus open houses, check lists, info about campus housing, etc. It has been something different every single week lately. Each time I see something in one of their envelopes I freak out. I applied way back in October and don't find out until late May.

My husband said it is a very good sign, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high. I don't want to read something into this if it is routine and everyone gets inundated with such things. Every time they send something it gets me Jonesing. Right now all I want is THAT ACCEPTANCE LETTER not a bumper sticker.

Is this common? Seems expensive! Maybe if they didn't send out so many mailings they could afford to expand the program and offer a spring admission as well!

I get stuff everyday from universities I have NEVER applied to. Some how I got on the university junkmail list.

Thanks Coolpeach, I remember my daughter getting stuff all the time, too. Like the SAT folks sold her name or something. I am only getting stuff from one college in particular. Today was a scholarship offer if I wanted OT be a teacher and some financial aid info. I swear it is every week at a minimum. Today it was too envelopes. Such a tease! I feel less hopeful now that I know someone else is getting weekly (or more) contact, too. Unless we are both in. I have to just accept that it means nothing and stop letting my heart race every time I get something from them. I think until I get a yah or nay I am just going to be on pins and needles.

Are you waiting on word or did you already get "the letter?"

Sandra let me see it during one of the prenursing information sessions. The points are only for the prereq classes. You have to have a minimum overall gpa, but the points are applied only to the prereqs. and if you are still working on some they don't count towards acceptance. Once you are accepted you just have to pass them. Although you probably will still kill yourself to try to get those A's. =) I know I was the same way.

I would love to know the point breakdown. Sandra has been very, very sweet and helpful when I have talked to her. She has been most encouraging, which is almost a burden in some ways. It is her positive feedback that has gotten my hopes up - which is nice if I am in, but horrible if not!!! Cruel if not. Hayward staff is less helpful, but far more typical.

Yes, killing myself for an A in O chem is right! I went in thinking all I had to do was pass, but then when I was more than passing, I got it in mind that I didn't want to "just pass." But it is O chem! To more than just pass is quite an undertaking .. especially for me. I am chemistry challenged, that is my Achilles Heel for sure. Now I am not letting go of that A if I can help it! don't need it for an ADN program, but if I have to do it, darn it, I am going to do it right, if it kills me! Did I mention I hate O chem? At least I am half way finished and it passes the time as I wait.

Hope you are having a great time at the conference. Hopefully you will be one of the students who does my orientation! :wink2: If nothing else I owe you a Starbucks for all your help.

Hotflashin,

I am still waiting on word, but they will not be sending out letters until April 24, and they are firm on their timelines so I know not to look for anything earlier.

I go through periods of feeling really hopeful, and then boom I am feaking out thinking I won't get in. I am trying not to think about it, but you know how that goes. This is my second app, and I have good points, and all of ducks in a row so I have done what I can do......now I just wait, and chew my nails.

I already attend the CC I applied to and I rarely get things in the mail from them. All I got in the mail this year in regards to NS was my application to fill out and then my letter of acceptance last week as well as a letter telling me that I need to attend an orientation meeting in a few weeks. Otherwise the only stuff I get from my CC is normal stuff like bills for tuition, my course schedule, summer course catalog, junk like that.

I think it just depends on the school: I received nothing between sending in my application and getting my acceptance letter from UF (and nothing since). But I received all sorts of broshures and invitations from the other school, UCF.
