Hi. I have been out of nursing for about 7 years now but because my license has not lapsed for more than 5 years, I am not required to take a refresher course to have it reinstated. However, I would like to brush up on my own. Are there any free refresher type programs or sites available online or maybe a book? I have an NCLEX LPN study guide book and it helped to go through the questions and read the answers and explanations, but I still feel like I need more.
Thanks in advance,
Jackie

Greetings Jackie,
I am also in the same boat. I have only been away 3 years, but I need some refreshers too. I have been searching the internet for help, but it's a jungle out there. Have you had any luck finding anything?

I don't know of any refresher courses that are free. Maybe you could get with some student nurses and study with them on skills. Do you know any nurses that could refresh you on skills? I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud. Good luck to you both! :)
Thank you Mia, that is a great idea.
You're welcome! Keep us posted on how it goes. :)

I don't think there is any free online course. I would take as many CEUS as needed.

I am also looking for a nurse refresher course which could be online or in the class room in Arizona. I do not need it for licensure but I think it might be a good idea and employers have requested the refresher. I have been out of the hospital for 8 years but have practiced office nursing. Does anyone have any ideas?:)

I bought the books for the Colorado one and I'm doing it on my own, just following along their sylibus.
Let me know if anyone does find a freebie one!

Although not free the program I work with is approved for DARS (disabled nurses can apply there for funds) and for funding if you are unemployed or underemployed through the Texas Worksource for those residing in our state. We also do payment plans. The other thing I wanted to mention is that the clinical portion is the biggest issue. Most employers will not call you if you do not do a refresher that has clinical. This is one of the reasons for the cost, there is so much money involved in doing clinicals (insurance, background checks, etc).

Hey there, I graduated nursing back in 1998, and only practiced under a temp licence, I did not go forward and fully licenced, and now I want to. In kentucky you don't haft to take a refresher course just the boards now, but I want to take one but it seems they only let you in a refresher course if you had a licence at one point, which I really don't understand that at all. Anyone know of any refresher course that doesn't follow that dumb rule and you can take even if you were never licenced but did earn your degree.
