Is there anywhere online to get free education credits? I am in Illinois. If it helps.

There are some websites that offer free continuing education programs for nurses. Medscape is one that I have used.

There is lots of good information in this thread, Free Nursing Education Programs - 100+ contact hours, which can be found in the stickies section at the bottom of the General Nursing forum.

The IDFPR (IL Dept of Financial and Professional Regulation) has a list online of acceptable CEUs - you might start there.

I took a lot from Medline but then discovered that my state BON doesn't accept any that are less than one hour, so all their quickie 30- and 15-minute refreshers were not accepted. Not wasted time, I learned something, but hey, it depends on how close to the line you are. I actually get tons from professional conferences but I liked the way Medline will give you a summary of what you've taken.

The BON in my state has CEU's on their website.
I also had them either emailed to me from my employer while working home health or there were folders of them in the break room when I did LTC. (I was an LNA)
There were folders for the RN's too. Ask your employer.

If you join a professional nursing organization you might get free CE's as a perk. Another source is vendors' websites. Try Bard, Medline, Atrium and other big suppliers.
