Freaking out. FFP = "fresh frozen platelets" or "fresh frozen plasma"

Started freaking out about this at home. Of course, I didn't think about it when I was ON SHIFT. Had a lady scheduled for a colonoscopy today. Her INR was still pretty high, so I got a telephone order from the physician (who wanted me to enter the order) for Vitamin K administration--no problem--and to transfuse 2 units FFP if her INR was greater than 1.8. Her INR came back 1.36, so at least this won't be an administration issue. I put in the orders for "FFP" in our system, but now I don't know if I ended up ordering PLASMA or PLATELETS. I could find out, of course. Someone please tell me, is it plasma or platelets that would be used to LOWER an INR? Is it too late for me to go back and correct the order if it is entered incorrectly? HELP!

I guess I am confused. You did everything correctly and were basically wondering what the initals stood for? And the patient never even rcvd said med? Why are ppl yelling at you? haha This forum is so silly sometimes :) Next time just google :p

Sorry, but in most good nursing programs, they expect you to know and understand what you are ordering/why the pt is to get it, and clarify at that time with the MD. Especially with high risk orders, of which blood product transfusions are one.

Some of us find it difficult and extremely disturbing, that the OP did not learn that very important fact in nursing school. The fact that s/he is this delayed in recognizing is distressing.

There is nothing "silly" or "haha" about the danger involved with this issue.

If you read my post I am clearly stating that how people have expressed their opinions was the laughing matter, not anything to do with the OP and her actions. And as one person stated these posts are very subjective, meaning how one interprets them. So I don't think I need to do anything regarding understanding criticism vs being snarky because in my opinion when I read some of these posts they are unnecessarily mean or rude. Would you speak that way to someone in public? No. Obviously not. And if you would well. Nevermind :p Maybe I should have used another word instead of yell, because you're correct, how can you yell on a forum. But I think you probably understood what I was getting at? And just wanted to be snarky to me too :p But anyways please do focus this thread on the OP's initial question and not my opinion of how some of you reacted.

One other thing you can do to clarify...call the blood bank, tell they word for word the order you received and they should be able to provide some guidance.
