I am in the brand new night class. I was skeptical to be in the first class but after all the other for profits still having a wait list I decided to do it. ADN in two years, not too bad on price and all I need are white nonslip shoes.
I did the HESI. 100 on vocabulary, 94 on math, 89 reading comp and 88 on grammar. I applied and was accepted within two days. I know it is a risk but I am 24. I work Ft as a cna. I'm so ready!!!
5:30-10:30 nights. 38,700.. I am nervous but I am willing to move for a job.

OUCH! That price hurts.
Where are the clinicals being held? And what about the NCLEX pass rate?
I see that Fortis is formerly Central Florida College and shows "approved" by the FL BON.
I can't get over all the new nursing programs popping up now when its so hard for new grad RNs to find jobs.
I also work at the VA so they will promote me :)

Hi,
I am also contemplating going to Fortis College in Largo for ADN. they start day classes in 2 weeks and it is a 2 year program, so in 10/13 I can be ready to take the NCLEX - RN....right now I am in PN school and will not finish till 11/12 then need to take the NCLEX and apply to St Pete College for their transition program and go 3 more full semesters......no RN_NCLEX that route till fall 2014........my thought was Fortis is more expensive, but less time, so I can be out working as an RN for 1 full year and make up for the money......
has anyone had any experience with the 2 year and in Largo fl? I was there today, met with a "salesman"....but found out the Dean of Nursing, Bobbi Martin, left after 1 year and the director that is filling in for her, "left for a week to go out of state to see her granddaughter".....just odd that noone in charge was there and he also told me they weren't happy with the Pharmacology teacher and fired her.............I left wanting to get my ADN in 2 years, but in my first meeting there, I just found out the Dean, the Director and a teacher have all "left the bldg."
Any one? Any advice?

Wow, I am shopping RN programs in this area and seen Fortis pop up when I lived down the road from them and have been wondering about it. The whole process is frustrating.

Up until 2 months ago I was a nursing student at Fortis. I have a Bachelor's degree from a state college and maintained a 4.0 GPA from that school. While at Fortis I maintained a 3.8 GPA but struggled to do so. The reason for the struggle was because the instructors teach one thing and test on something completely different. When asking questions they tell you the book is ... [COLOR=#02b1f2]Read more incorrect. When discussing this with the dean, she said that she supports her instructors 100% and I need to learn better study skills. If I did not have a 4.0 from a REAL school I might have given some thought to her ridiculous accusation. After speaking with several students that were getting ready to graduate, I found out that this school's practices are completely unethical. Students were getting to the end of the nursing program and if ---- did not believe they would pass the NCLEX exam she would make sure their grades where changed so that they failed the program. This way they would not risk lowering the schools pass rates which are needed to get the League of Nursing accreditation which by the way, I was told by the admission person they already had. He assured me they had all the accreditations needed to get a job in any hospital. Also another lie because after investigating further, Fortis College has a very bad reputation in the area and Fortis graduates are not hired. All of this was verified by a former instructor who left the school because she would not participate in these unethical practices. You are probably wondering why I didn't go back to a state school and the bottom line is the waiting lists are so long I decided to try a for profit school because there was no waiting list and no pre-req's required. Now I know why there was no waiting list. One of my classes started with 12 students and by the end of class 8 had dropped out or been failed and forced to drop. For profit schools are just that. The only thing that matters is their $$. What kind of school takes 48,000 for an Associate degree in nursing and lets a student get all the way to the end of their program and fails them so that their education becomes worthless at this point because your credits will not transfer to another reputable/regionally accredited school. They will tell you they will but they will not. None of mine transferred. I have since transferred to Galen and I am so happy I did. If this review helps just one person avoid this school it is worth my time to write it. Please avoid this school. Talk to some of the current students and see what they say about the school.
I ended up going to Galen. I'm glad I did after reading your post.

Wow, after reading what ASMITH2012 said about this school, I must say I agree. I didn't know that the grades were being changed but I too wondered how I could possibly be doing bad enough not to pass. Twice I failed Nursing Fundamentals but a fraction of a point. When I would ask for my tests and work to be reviewed, I was told no, it wouldn't change anything. Mind you, I've been known to call BS on some of their ways and challenge the instructors. I have since gone back to SPC. I am taking my last of pre-reqs now, which is MICRO, and I have already applied to and been accepted into the SPRING 2015 RN program at SPC. I don't regret being turned away from Fortis one bit.
On a side note, I have yet to hear of a success story from a gradute of Fortis as I am still friends with some on FB. Aside from a few passing the boards, only a smaller number are even in the medical field (more so because they were previous CNAs/LPNs)
