Fort Worth??

Published

I am a 24 year-old California LVN student with a nearing graduation date of October 2005. I am planning to move to Texas immediately upon graduating and first considered El Paso; however, I'm not bilingual and that area has a high demand for Spanish-speaking nurses. I then looked at Houston, but realized I am fearful of the snakes and humid weather.

Now I'm seriously considering Fort Worth because the many of the houses are in my price range and the heat is dry (not humid or muggy). I would like to know a few things.

1. How's the job market and pay for LVNs?

2. Where are the safe, desirable neighborhoods?

3. I plan to eventually continue my education and bridge from LVN-to-RN. Could I do that in Ft. Worth/Dallas?

4. Are the snakes really active in Ft. Worth? :crying2:

I'd like to extend my warmest thank-yous in advance to any responders of this thread. I am highly appreciative of any knowledge, help, warnings, and tips/pointers. Thanks again! :)

Benbrook is just west of Hulen - there is a lake there with nice parks, nice schools and some older affordable homes and newer more expensive ones. It was pretty quiet out there when I lived there. It has probably grown some I imagine, but I have friends who are still there and they still love it.
Thank you! I am appreciative of your help! :)

Can some one give me some job market rundown on the rn pay in dallas be it perdiem pay for agency, hospitals or Nursing homes, and what are the running rates for nurses down there? with a few years of experience that is. please you could also give me some names of the goos agencies to work for. moving down there from the east coast.

in Dallas - RN's with a few years experience range at 24 to 34 an hour if employed by the facility or company. They range 30 to 40 if working agency or per diem. Some make more than that, a few make less. Fort Worth pays a little less than Dallas, but housing and stuff is a little cheaper over there even though it isn't that far away.

If you go in on an agency contract, with guaranteed minimum hours you can make a much higher salary - and you won't lose your hours by having shifts cancelled. Not all places do that - but some will.

Honestly when it comes to working for a staffing agency, you just need to interview a couple and see which is the best fit for you. I would just look them up and call them and see if the manager will do a phone interview (once they have an app in hand) and then see who you like the best. There are a number of good ones, but I have been out of FtW for quite some time.
