Former Baptist students?

Hi! I was wondering if there are any former Baptist School of Health Profession students out there.

I was wondering if students from Baptist can easily get externships at Baptist hospitals (or any other for that matter) during school?

Have you run across any problems finding a job because you have a diploma instead of a degree?

Any pointers for a first semester student?:loveya:

Thank you in advance to anyone who has any advice.

Hey girl! Are you pumped for next Wednesday?

When I took the CPR class a few months ago I ran into a former BHS student. She said that Baptist favors BHS students over any outsiders, and that you're almost guaranteed an externship with them. She was hired by a different hospital in SA on a pediatrics floor. Sounds pretty promising to me:up:

Hi! I am so ready for Wed! Orientation is at the school right? I think I am ready... nervous though. I am not going to work the first semester but I want to get an externship after the first semester. What field are you interested in going into? Currently I am thinking NICU or PICU.

Orientation, as well as hospital day, will be held at the school. I don't think I'm going to do an externship until the last semester of NS. I have a tendency to get too stressed out. Ideally I'd like to go into L&D, but I'm also interested in NICU and PICU.

Externships are easy to get if you get one right after the semester ends and the grads have given up their extern positions. They're hard to get a few weeks into the semester.

It being a diploma is no biggie. It's actually viewed as slightly better than an associates because they know you have more clinical experience. The school has a good reputation.

Pointers for first semester students... Have fun! Because the second half of the second semester stinks out loud. At least mine did... I think they switched a few instructors around/out so hopefully yours will be better. =)

My wife graduated from Baptist over 20 years ago, with a diploma. She's worked in the ER ever since, till recently, when she was promoted into a management position.

The diploma hasn't slowed her down at all.
